Living a virtuous life can be a rich experience. Sooner or later your peers are certain to appreciate your disciplined lifestyle and you are certain to receive many accolades for that, including that of your family. You will even be a role model for your family members, especially your children. Here are the 10 healthy habits you may want to build and sustain forever, and they need not necessarily relate to your eating habits, it can relate to human relationship, honesty, ethics in personal life and workplace, and many more… almost endless you should say. You need to coax yourself; your body and mind both, remember. They are certain to produce results and you will be happy that you have begun doing it very early in your life, the best time to begin, or even later in your life; takes a little harder but nevertheless you can still attain your healthy habit goals.
1. Go to bed early in the evening; your body has been designed for that. Going early to bed also mean you get the opportunity to rise earlier than most others and begin the day with a fresh mind and full of energy. Take a brisk walk in the open if the weather is fair enough, or do some workouts on an inclement day so you can build up your metabolic rate that will sustain your energy levels for the rest of the day.
2. Take a balanced breakfast that includes cereals, milk and a small helping of protein rich food like eggs. Let the diet you take, be low in fat and high on carbohydrates. Taking a heavy breakfast can make you sleepy and lethargic, and taking an extremely small breakfast too is not advisable either; it only encourages you to nibble on snacks mid way before lunch time.
3. Try saying no to dining in restaurants; they are not only expensive but unhealthy too. Most restaurants use large quantities of fat in their cooking just to make them tastier without any proportionate nutritional values. That is not to say stop patronizing them altogether; just use their services sparingly if at all you have to for unavoidable reasons.
4. Avoid carbonated sweetened drink; instead switch to fresh fruit juices or whole fruits when you have that intense craving for snack some time before your lunch hour. Fruits can be a kind of appetizer that will let you enjoy your lunch. Let all the food that you take be at the same time of each day; habits after all mean maintaining a routine and that includes your culinary habits as well.
5. Take a cold shower if you live in a tropical country or a warm one if in cold place, preferably in the morning just after your exercise to ensure that the sweat do not build up bacteria that can cause skin rashes. Say no to lethargy on this count; it is one of the best 10 healthy habits to build; a little difficult to follow but certainly attainable. If you are one of those who work outdoors most of your time, then follow with a shower in the evening too, just before bedtime.
6. Never do self medication; consult your doctor instead. The human body is a too complex a system for everyone to understand holistically, and self medication is sort of postponing a visit to your doctor that you need most. Seemingly minor symptoms may even be sign of a major disorder in your body that only physicians can diagnose accurately. Have a major medical checkup on a routine basis, preferably one a year even if you have no reason to complain.
7. Let truthfulness be a virtue in you. Being truthful to yourself and your family gives peace of mind and is one of the 10 healthy habits that you need to build with a lot grit and determination. It takes courage and self discipline that comes from only from a mature mind. Besides truthfulness and honesty can keep you away from breaking law and the stresses they usually produce. Stress is one of the common reasons for heart ailments, remember.
8. Maintain good relationship with your neighbors and avoid quarrel with them even under very provocative situations. Although advisory in nature of the 10 healthy habits, and difficult to follow if you are a hypersensitive person, still make a habit to develop this virtue. Maintaining a healthy relationship on the social front hardly costs a dime. Fine tune this habit; for you and the family as well.
9. Make social responsibility part of the 10 healthy habits you may want. Stop using plastics, recycle materials you may want to throw in the dumps at the slightest thought. Remember that accepting social responsibilities are just as important as maintaining your health.
10. And finally the most important of all the 10 healthy habits be kind to fellow humans, animals and the mother earth. Find ways and means to give the best in you, stand by the side of the needy, aged and the destitute. Make a habit to make at least one donation for a social cause every month.
