The numbers play an important role in spiritual writing. The spiritual meaning of numbers in the Bible plays a very massive role in helping the faithful to understand the supernatural intent. Most of us will accept the existence of numbers in our life in mundane fashion, but little we do know about the infinite roles that these tiny geometrical figures play in our life. But even lesser people will know that these, simple numbers that look so unnoticed have great significance both technically & spiritually. Numerologists find great supernatural depth in numbers, and so do the mathematicians. The significance of numbers in human life is unaccountable.
Since the human development started, numbers are often related with the eternal power residing in the universe. Several eminent scholars & historians of nearly all the ages have tried to relate numbers with the religious based literary works. Numerologists calculate auspicious days by studying special patterns in the horoscopes. Humans have always tried to elicit the hidden meanings in numbers; similar attempts were laid on biblical works. Some tried even to calculate the year of judgement, & there have been some predictions too. The attempts to get the highest possible count & the inability to grasp the concept of infinity itself prove that there is some connection between the two. Search of meanings in numbers is the most fundamental way used by the humans to connect them with divinity.
Numbers in the Bible -
References to numbers start with the beginning of the bible. The idea that the almighty God created the whole of this world in seven days comes in the beginning of the bible, but may be reference to seven is just for the understanding of weaker humans. No one knows that one day in context to creation of the world refers to a phase, a year, or a millennium. In faith, we accept everything which is beyond our understanding as it is God’s creation. The Ten Commandments mentioned in the Old Testament is a code for the basic human behaviour & human rights, dealing with completeness that happens in a divine order or completed during a course of time. There's nothing that is left wanting within the complete cycle. In the present world, number 10 is used for ranking the perfection, hence the analogy between the biblical & real life meaning is so apt.
Numbers 1 & 7 -
Similarly, biblically 1 stands for the God, who is the sole power in the world, everything starts with 1. In real life, unity is the most common as it cannot be further divided, this again shows the analogy. In a similar fashion “7” has been used in the bible for the duration in which world is created. In real life, we have a week of 7 days, after which the cycle repeats itself; the concept of weekend also comes from the fact that after working for 6 days, God took rest for a day. Moreover the number 7 signifies the divine completeness. Colours in the rainbow are also “7”. These are enough to prove the point being discussed here.
Number’s meanings & their analogy -
Number “9” is often quoted as to deal with the judgement or the final touch in the things. It is described for the perfect movement of God, analogous to the process of a birth of a child which is born after a time period of 9 months of the zygote fertilization. Catholics pray a 5 decade rosary before 14 stations of cross. Biblically the number 5 is used to denote the completeness, or related to redemption. Similar is the evident from the practice of the Catholics to pray a “5” decade rosary. Then 14 means twice the power of spirituality in the bible, and so do the Catholics believe as they believe that by praying at 14 churches. Religious people accept the numbers as the spiritual signs. In a similar fashion, the New Testament, the book of revelation describes the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, which means the completeness or entirety in creation, which is destroyed by the 4 horsemen in context with the apocalypse.
Irradicality in Name of Faith -
There is a general concept of lucky & unlucky numbers in people all around the globe. In biblical numerology, 13 deals with the rebellion of things, corruption, abandonment, revolution, war, or anything related to breaking and destroying. May be for this reason, people feel that 13 is an unlucky number. Unlike its social acceptance, number “3” comes for trinity and Godhead. It is used to describe the divine perfection. It is associated with the concepts of spirit and life. It is also referred to viewing things in entirety. Number “666” relates to the name of antichrist, whereas in reality it is the Hebrew name for king Nero. Similarly number “11” is considered to be a lucky number, but biblically it stands for imperfection, disorganization of systems, and the disorder or chaos of the things. From the above argument, it is clear that this study deals with the biblical study and not just theology. It is for a better understanding with the area of prophecy that is found within the Bible.
The Bible is for the people to help them develop faith in good over evil, and the numbers to help them understand the study of the Bible better. This can be related with the truth of life, not with the fear and superstitions. Moreover, the spiritual meaning of numbers in the Bible does not play any part in superstitious beliefs of people; it is to help them grow.
