A Necessary Distraction And Focus Theory
While most of you would agree with me on the importance of focus in our life, I believe there would be many who would not believe distraction to be of equal importance both in practice and theory. What if I tell you that distraction is of equal importance than focus and need to be treated at par? Focus relates more to concentration in order to put our heart and soul in one single thing. Distraction relates more to putting ourselves on ignore mode by involving other things that completely takes off our attention from the task in hand. It takes a lot of effort to focus on some thing; likewise we need a lot of effort for distraction too in order to bring sanity to our lives.
We realize the importance focus just because it helps us to achieve our goals. At the same time we think distraction to be an unnecessary evil that takes us away from our goals. But the truth is that both focus and distraction are useful or useless depending upon the situation in which they are used. Distraction is an equal opposite of focus but if it gets used at right place at right time, it has the potential to display extraordinary magic. You may be doing it in your everyday life but may not be recognizing its true potential. Let’s study the distraction and focus theory more closely to see the difference.
What you do when you want to achieve something
1) You put your heart and soul in it
2) You think of nothing but your target
3) All your actions and efforts are directed towards your goals.
This is the reason that we need focus in order to work hard and achieve impossible in life
The examples can be
1) You need to focus on studies in order to get good marks
2) You need to concentrate on the presentation to make good impact
3) You need to focus on your goals in order to be on track
But what if
1) You need to stop a child from crying
2) Experience less pain from your wounds
3) Take your mind off the recent heartbreak
The answer is simple – You use Distraction
1) You do all sort of funny things in front of child so that he stops crying
2) You get involved in different activities in order to get your mind off the pain
3) You change your surroundings and keep yourself busy in order to keep your mind off the heartbreak.
In these particular scenarios you cannot use the strategy of focus because it would mean a complete disaster. You need all sorts of skills in order use distraction successfully.
Distraction has been used since ages
1) To win battles – You distract attention of enemy and attack from other side.
2) To escape bad situations – People forget mistakes done by other people the moment new event, which distracts them, happens.
3) To help people achieve sanity- You help people get out of the rut of their lives.
There are scores of examples of Successful use of distraction.
Does the distraction theory now look more powerful than Focus? Not At All.
Focus is giving direction to our energy. It is hard to do but when we master it here is nothing that can stop us from achieving our goals.
The Bigger fact is that a focus on distraction can help us master this technique pretty quickly.
Having Said that The Principle should be simple
You want to achieve something- Use Focus
You want to divert something in order to achieve other thing- Use Distraction
Use the wise mix and no one can take success from you.
When you want to focus on something make sure there should be no distraction around you. Similarly when you want to distract something make sure it loses it focus quickly. The intelligent people use this logic in a pretty good manner to achieve what they have set themselves for. These are your weapon, use them judiciously. The sooner we realize this, the better it is for us.
