Bring A Positive Attitude In The Workplace

I believe that most people don’t have a right attitude towards work. It is a fact that you will spend at least one third of your life working so if you hate what you do you can say that you are wasting a huge chunk of it being miserable. Of course the best thing you can do is to find a job you like but there is almost no such thing. Work is work and even if you get your dream job you are still very likely to get disappointed by it, when you find out that you will have to do a lot of paperwork for example, and take a lot of stupid test, before you actually get to do the thing you love. So, what is the solution then if finding the perfect job is not possible? Well, from my experience, the best thing you could do is to always try to bring a positive attitude in the workplace. Trust me; it will make a world of a difference. It’s more about your mindset, than about what you actually do. If you go in with enthusiasm and optimism you will much easily come out the same way. Here’s how:

1.    Always think about the future. If you are not satisfied with what you are doing, the first step you should take is to think about where you want to get. This is the only way you will be able to maintain a positive attitude in the workplace. If your boss yells at you for no reason just think about how fun it will be when you will be in charge, and what you will be able when you have a chance to implement your ideas.

2.    Make a list of all the good things about your job. Having a positive attitude in the workplace is all about focusing on the good things. We all have a tendency to focus on everything that is wrong with our job and with our life in general. This is why I believe that writing down everything you believe is positive, and which you enjoy doing is a very big step towards having a good time at work.

3.    Reduce stress. Not the easiest thing to do I admit but if you are able to do it than nothing will be able to bring you down. A quick fix you could try is using a stress ball. One of those little rubber balls that you have to squeeze in your hand in order to relieve stress. It doesn’t sound very scientific, I know, but I have found that in a lot of cases it works very well.

4.    Smile and try to be an optimist. The easiest thing you can do in order to have a positive attitude in the workplace is to try to smile more often. That’s the first sign to everybody else that you are a person who they can feel at ease to talk to, which is an enormous benefit no matter where you work. Try to pay attention to the words you use and make sure the ones with a positive sense outweigh the ones with a negative sense.

5.    Do the hardest jobs. This might sound counterintuitive but I have used it, and for me, the results where very positive. Think about it like this: what would you rather tell yourself at nigh? That you gave it your best shot and you managed to do what very few people can, or that you where accurate doing a job which anyone could do. The key towards a positive attitude in the workplace is having high self esteem.

6.    Do what you’re supposed to do first. I have often found that many people leave their work in order to help somebody out with a favor. This is the cause to a lot of frustrations and sometimes even resentment. You should always prioritize your work, so that it will always get done on time. If it so happens that when somebody asks you for a favor and you aren’t doing anything, than there’s no problem in helping somebody out, but otherwise you are just causing yourself grief.

7.    Don’t let others bring you down. This is probably one of the hardest things to do in any line of work. You should always be sure about yourself and about the work you do. Don’t listen to anybody just because they have an opinion that is or isn’t founded. Listen to only a handful of people whose opinions you trust and ignore the rest.

Having a positive attitude in the workplace isn’t easy at all. But form my experience I have learned that it makes a world of a difference. It takes a lot of perseverance and a lot of will power, but in the end I believe the result is worth it. I hope my advice can prove useful, and I wish you a great day at work!
