Being able to make a good presentation has become essential for any mid-level manager. PowerPoint presentations have become one of the most commonly used tools in any business meeting. So, in order to think about getting a promotion you must first gain advanced presentation skills. There are a few tips that you will find out from experience which I will share with you in the paragraphs below, but at the same time it wouldn’t hurt if you had a natural born talent for this kind of activity, because most of it relies on having enough confidence to speak openly in front of a bunch of important people, and to have enough charm in order to convince them about the idea your promoting. Self-confidence can be learned through perseverance and training and that can sometimes prove enough to convince people in a meeting. But of course there are a few ground rules specific to this activity that you can’t bypass. So, let see what you need to do in order to have advanced presentation skills:

1.    Learn your PowerPoint functions properly. This is probably the most basic thing you need to learn for gaining advanced presentation skills. If you don’t know how to use the program and exploit all the benefits it provides you with than all the charm in the world can’t save you. Knowing your program well is a sign of a very good professional. Plus, it’s not that hard, you can follow the help menu which is very useful for some features, or an even better idea is to search forums for answers to problems similar to the ones you are facing.

2.    Structure your presentations clearly. Without a well-defined structure to your presentation people will have a hard time following your ideas. Ideally you should try to keep your introduction down to about 10% of the whole presentation, content to about 80%, and conclusions to about 10%. Make sure you have a well-balanced introduction, because if it’s to sketchy, people may find themselves unaware about what you are talking about in your content. You need to establish at the beginning what the goals of the presentation are and what you are trying to prove. Conclusions can be aided with a Q&A session.

3.    Start off with something surprising. You need to keep in mind that the kinds of people that will assist at your presentation spend a good portion of their time listening to stuff like that every day. So you need to capture their attention from the beginning or you may wind up talking to yourself for the rest of the meeting. This is why you need to start off with something surprising, something that will throw them off balance and make them aware of what you are trying to say. This is a very useful tip for gaining advanced presentation skills.

4.    Be concise and effective. Once you gain the attention of your audience you need to keep it. The one thing you shouldn’t do is start introducing unnecessary facts, or start blabbering outside the subject. You need to remain focused on the main subject and eliminate everything you can think off that is not absolutely essential. Use keywords in your presentation, and good way of keeping your presentation concise is to never have fonts bigger than 24. This should become a hard rule for anyone trying to achieve advanced presentation skills.

5.    Offer hard cold facts. It is essential to take a lot of time in order to do your research for any presentation. Do not just assume that some things are as you think they are. Always corroborate your theories with facts you get from doing your research properly.

6.    Dress for the occasion. In order to achieve a professional appearance you need to dress well. Surprisingly or not, this will actually get people to trust you more and be more aware of what you are trying to prove. This idea goes hand in hand with the fact that you need to be aware of your body language during a presentation. Sometimes your body language might just give away the fact that you are not that confident in an idea you present emphatically.

7.    Conquer your stage fright. This is the ultimate thing you need to do in order to have advanced presentation skills. It’s not something you can learn it’s just something that comes with the self-confidence you get from doing a good job.

Advanced presentation skills have become a prerequisite for anybody who thinks of climbing up the corporate ladder. I am sure you may have other suggestions on how to achieve this goal, but at the same time it may prove useful to learn from my experience, and try to apply the ideas you have seen in this paragraph.

How To Succeed At Financial Planing

Many people consider themselves as being in the dark when it comes to spending their money wisely, but other people think they have a grip on things, when in truth, they really don’t. The glitch is, when it comes to cash, you always get the impression that you can stretch them every which way and still end up with some spare change for gas. Well, the bad news is that money is not made of rubber and therefore can’t be stretched, but the good news is that there is a way for you to be completely independent financially, from your relatives and from your friends, from all those horrifying loans taken from the banks which have to be paid back at twice their value. I know it is frustrating to wait another month to buy that new fridge, but do consider the fact that you would feel much freer if you only had a mattress and a good book in your apartment, but no outstanding debt. And freedom is invaluable. That is why I advise you to read this article carefully, in order to find out how to succeed at financial planning and get that feeling which is impossible to buy.

1.  Always stick to your budget. This is the first golden rule of prudent financial planning. Never buy things on credit, never burrow and if it is at all possible, do not take a single long term loan from the bank. Think of it this way: if you overspend this month, then the next month you will have to pull through twice as hard to make ends meet. Also, you will feel an obnoxious pressure at the back of your head and always be reminded that a debt must be paid eventually and cannot be postponed forever. And if you must take a loan from a bank, make sure you read the conditions thoroughly and compare it with other bank offers, just so you know that you will choose the one that suits your needs best.

2.  Factor in additional costs. This is one that most people neglect when planning for the month ahead. Let us say that you have found that you can afford a new household item. Make sure you ask about transportation and installation, if the costs are included or if they come extra. Also, you might want to ask the manufacturer if they are associated with any insurance company, because some companies can insure the product if you just tick an option in the warranty. This will save you time and money if something happens to your item in the first two years of its life.

3.   Maximize the figures. If you are at the beginning of a new month and you are trying to faithfully approximate and foresee all the possible expenses required for the next 31 days, just relax. You will not be able to predict everything. After all, you are not psychic. All you can do is put down what’s in your head and give the largest amount possible for every expense on your list.

4.   Invest in quality, but do not splurge. A key in financial planning is buying things that will last. In however desperate situation you might find yourself, it is best to buy from a well-established firm, than to buy the cheapest thing on the shelf. Also, if you can do a bit of research, you might find middle sized companies which produce excellent products at a fair price so you wouldn’t have to pay for the flashiness of a renowned firm.

5.   Cut frivolous costs. This is a painful measure, because sometimes spoiling yourself really makes you happy. But what you could do is cut your eating out to only once or twice a week and only see those movies that are worth seeing in a cinema. For the ladies, you do not need to see a beautician; there are treatments which can be done at home.

6.   Hunt those special sales. I do not refer here at camping out in front of a mall, no. But there are specialized stores which also have brief discount periods and whoever gets there first can pick the best gadgets the store has to offer.

7.   Put 10% aside of your income aside for unforeseen events. I cannot stress enough the importance of this last piece of advice if you ever want to succeed at financial planning. The day you receive that paycheck, put 10% somewhere and forget about it. Almost every month you need an emergency fund for any number of reasons so it would be nice to actually have it.

However, if you never get to use that money, you should consider it money set aside for a rainy day. And if that day never comes, it means you are getting too good at this financial planning business and that this article served you right. So go ahead and take a vacation, you have definitely earned it.
