Every society in this world recognizes and acknowledges the importance of a formal education between the ages of 5 and 16 for both primary as well as secondary education. Also, from the age of 16 to early twenties, one needs to have his or her professional education. There has been an ongoing debate about the current issues in education. There are certain rules and regulations which are being followed probably, since the word school has evolved.

Of course, there are no two thoughts about the advantages that the education system has to offer both to an individual as well as to the society. ·        Necessity of a school uniform: One of the current issues in education is the debate regarding school uniform. Many feel that in an institution where we go to learn something; is it really necessary for us to have a uniform? What role does a uniform play in getting education? Supporters of school uniform say that it leads to oneness in terms of looks and instills a sense of discipline. A child may be poor or rich but in school, everybody is equal and a sense of regulation is prevailed. Though some may regard the move as dictatorial in nature but most of the school authorities seem to think otherwise.

·        Multiculturalism: Another one of the raging current issues in education is the prayer. In an educational institution, children from different religions come forward to complete their education. The school prayer followed may not be in accordance to the religion of someone else. There is one more dimension to it. To counter the above mentioned situation and display multiculturalism, many schools allow different prayers to be conducted for different students. This leads to disparity among students. Religion is an entirely personal choice and general information about religion is welcome.

·        Sex Education: Imparting sex education is one the hottest current issues in education. With the number of AIDS victims, teenage sex offenders and underage mummies on the rise, one needs to definitely impart sex education in schools. Parents have an opinion that the children might not be ready for such information or are too young to understand the outcomes behind it. This makes it even more important for us to educate them on this topic. Such issues are not dealt with in the privacy of the homes by parents because they feel shy. What one does not understand is that ignorance can lead to bigger problems.

·        Science vs. religious beliefs: All religions have their own theory and beliefs regarding the evolution. These theories are not in sync with the Darwin’s theory of evolution. Problems start when the child considers both the theories and are perplexed as to what to follow, the religion or science. Many parents are of the opinion that evolution should not be in the curriculum at all. This is one of the current issues in education. People fail to realize that one should support something which has got facts attached to it and not something which does not contain any scientific proof.

·        Home work: One of the current issues in education is the debate regarding home work. Parents are of the opinion that if the school is burdening the child with a lot of homework then when will the child play or fulfill his hobby. Home work is usually given to a student to ensure that even after going back home; he remains in touch with the subject. Detractors argue that if a lesson is taught to them well, there is no need of home work at all.

Education is a necessary evil for all of us. If education has some advantages, then it also has many disadvantages. But in this case, the pros of education outweigh the cons of it. Supporters of the systems say that these rules and regulations are mandatory to keep a sense of uniformity and discipline. Whereas the detractors say the current issues in education need to be taken into serious consideration and something needs to surely be done about it.
