Definition and Meaning of Happiness

They say ‘happiness is the state of mind’. I agree. This is something which largely nay entirely depends upon your thinking abilities. It is true that the world is really filled with so many problems and injustices that one can’t help feeling sullen, disappointed and unhappy, but there are many beautiful things, too. We can always stay happy, if we can learn what makes us happy and how to achieve that blissful state. In my opinion everyone has his/her own definition and meaning of happiness. What makes one feel happy may not do so to other. It is situational, too, for what you feel happy at in one situation may be an entirely difference experience in other situation. For example if you have not eaten anything for many days, getting a bread piece would bring you a lot of happiness, but it wouldn’t any good if you have already got your belly full. So it is the state of mind, surrounding environment, or our perception of things that makes us happy or unhappy.

As are growing complexities of globalization in modern day lifestyle, so are getting the things complicated in human life. Those who take life seriously are often involved in serious matters and get little opportunity to feel happy. While there are others who live life in very casual manner and take nothing very seriously, hence they are always living satisfied life and less intrigued in their affairs and are at a better level of happiness than those Serious fellows.

I have also observed that the level of happiness is higher in people with less involvement in complex worldly affairs. For example, if you have ever noticed, children are always in happy state of mind. This is mainly because there mind is not engaged in complex worldly affairs and free of worries and fears of what is not. For them happiness is way beyond the definition and meaning of happiness

Sometimes we grownup develop certain conditions to become happy. For example the person who wants to get very rich in life decides that his first aim is to collect first million. Now each and every of his act and idea would revolve around that one million only and he will hardly be able to identify and avail the opportunity of feeling happy. While the first aim of life should be to feel happy. In fact one should repeat this very promise to himself that ‘I will not miss a single opportunity of feeling happy or making others happy in between all my daylong activities’ but we don’t. We think that we do not have right to feel happy until we achieve those levels of material success in life and many of us end up our lives running after these aspirations, forget about the happiness.

Some people also pet a mentality that they would stray from their direction if they involve in enjoyment and happiness hence avoid such opportunities and incidences which may cause their time and efforts spent on happiness. Even if they have to involve in some happy affairs of life such as a gathering, play group, watching a movie etc, they do it unwillingly and fail to really enjoy the episode. Such people are far away from relaizing definition and meaning of happiness

Happiness is also a habit which few people develop in their nature and do reflect it every now and then. Formation of this habit may be the result of happy surroundings that we were brought up in, fewer complexities in life, or who-cares attitude. These people feel elite always and believe in enjoying life in all its form, come what may.

Happiness is a natural phenomena and nature influences it very much. I mean a lot depends upon the external and environmental situations, too. For example, you feel happy in morning hours, fresh air, and when close to nature. Likewise you feel happy when you enter a new environment from the old monotonous world. A lot depends upon our nature, too. For example some people feel happy when they meet new people, some feel happy when they are alone, some feel happy when they get their favourite things and some in some other situation. It is in human nature too that help them relize definition and meaning of happiness

They say that the person is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. And this is the mantra of getting eternal happiness. One should not make his/her happiness a costly condition which may snatch happiness from him/her for ever. It should be the way children have it. They feel happy with everything they can lay their hands on. They have nothing to do with a price tag.

It is true that every one of us has our own definition and meaning of happiness, but it has a universal definition, too. It is that we are borne to be happy and we must always feel happy. This is our responsibility towards Mother Nature. Our meaning of happiness must not be conditional, but only enjoy life. One who knows how to live happy while playing his/her part on this worldly stage, only knows the real art of living.
