Do You Delegate Tasks And Work

30 January 2010 3 Comments

Delegation is an important ingredient if you are looking for success and it is important to delegate tasks and work. It is simplest of act yet there are too many reservations that get rallied behind it. It is a process where you assign the work entrusted on you to someone else but are ultimately responsible for its timelines and quality. In other words the ultimate output belongs to you but it is not you who actually takes any action to get the work completed. The good side has always been the increase in capacity and scalability that you experience at the personal level while the negative ones include the fear of perfection or insecurity gets developed.

Delegation is something that we do in everyday life. It is deeply rooted in our habits but we fail to recognize its true use. Allowing someone to do any work which you would have ideally done yourself is a true case of delegation. But problem becomes complex when it relates to something that we value most. These are the things that we want to do our way and it if difficult for us to accept quality that gets delivered by someone else. In a way there is a mental block that gets developed which if not removed in time has a potential to affect our growth. Let’s talk about it more and see why it is important to delegate tasks and work.

Delegation happens in everyday life. Look around you and you would find

1) A Driver drives the car for you

2) A gardener takes care of your garden

3) A plumber takes care of all your plumbing jobs

The best you do is to make sure

1) Driver has good training and the car he drives is of good condition

2) Gardener has all the resources that can help him to maintain a beautiful garden for you.

3) A plumber has all equipment and replacements that can help him fix the problem.

You could have done all those things on your own. Then why don’t you do it?

Because

1) This is not something you are proficient at

2) You don’t have time for such things because you have your own job

3) You get the job done from people who are best in their field.

Having said that, the situation is different when it comes to things that relate to our workplace and our career as whole

1) We learn important things on our job

2) After sometime we graduate to next level

3) With ever rise comes an opportunity for us to learn new things and leave old

But problem starts here only

1) Most of the people are not willing to let go the things that they own

2) They don’t trust others with work that they used to do

3) They get possessive and feel someone is taking away their right.

Such an attitude is determinant to their growth. They just fail to realize that

1) When they give their work to someone else, they free up their time to do things which are more important

2) They only need to keep a check on what gets done rather than how it gets done.

3) A little intervention is all that is needed for marvelous results.

This habit of delegation of tasks and work soon results in

1) A total control on output where you deliver more than what your two hands are capable of.

2) Growth in career where you are open to face more challenges in life

3) A change in life where your work become more dynamic and interesting

There is just a hitch involved in letting someone do your work. The sooner you get over it, the better it is for you to go higher in life.

Also until you leave something how can your hands get new things?

Always seek something that is new and exciting and let other take care of work that you have already mastered. All then you need is to keep a check and things will dance to your tunes.

This is a great article. It also underlies the principle behind the Optask task engine…free up time from your busy schedule by delegating things that can be easily handled by someone else.
