Fun Christmas Games

The time preceding Christmas can be just like the title of Tim Burton’s quirky picture: The Nightmare before Christmas. A lot of presents to be bought, a lot of cleaning to be done and clothes to be washed, a lot of cooking to be done – you often don’t know which to start doing. And then at Christmas you’re tired and moody and you just want to sleep. Does any of this sound familiar? If it does, brace yourself because Christmas can be so much fun you wouldn’t want to miss out on any of it!

What follows is a reminder of how hilarious the holiday season can be. These are the best ideas for fun Christmas games ever! So get cracking for a jolly good time! Ho-ho-ho!

1. Season classics. You are not a true adult if you don’t want to revisit those liberating childhood years. So do pray for a lovely white Christmas if you want to enjoy these Christmas games. You might remember them, they are called snowball fighting and sleigh riding. You and your friends can practice them as a planned activity or spontaneously and the best part is that you can take your kids with you and teach them how it was done in the golden days.

2. Sporty games. They are more than games or sports, they are both and they can only be practiced in the cold season. Try skiing or ice skating for both fun and exercise. The feeling you get when you’re flying with your skis over hilltops doesn’t come close to anything else. It’s feeling free and powerful at the same time. Of course, you could engage your friends into some kind of contest to make it more challenging. And the same goes for skating; you could play tag… on ice!

3. Secret Santa. You can play this game at your workplace or in the family, it’s loads of fun. It’s one of the most exciting and fun Christmas games possible. Because it involves you and your loved one giving presents, but nobody knowing who they’ll be receiving their gift from. And it’s already become one of those cool Christmas traditions. To play it to its maximum potential, write the names of all the participants on tiny pieces of paper and put them in a hat. Extract them a couple of weeks before Christmas so that everybody has time to decide what to buy (in case they don’t know the recipient that well).

4. Board games. This is one option for a fun Christmas games that is also more cerebral. You can also play cards, but it’s already become a thing of the past. Board games are way more challenging. You can play Risk, Monopoly or any of the classics, but you can choose a no brainer like Cluedo. If you and your friends are more flexible, give Twister a try! It’s bound to bring about a few laughs.

5. Twenty questions. If you’re looking for one of those fun Christmas games for which you don’t need any props, then this would be your ideal choice. How it’s played? Someone gives the name of a celebrity or of a fictional character to another player and the others ask questions about that person in order to guess who it is. Whether it’s a man or woman, dead or alive and so on. They have to be yes or no questions, though. The winner gets to be the next one under the spotlight.

6. Mime. This is one of the funniest Christmas games ever, especially after you’ve had a couple of drinks. You most certainly know how to play it so I won’t bore you with explanatory details, but what you maybe didn’t play because it’s not so spread, is drawing mime. You are mute, just like in ordinary mime, but instead of gesturing, you draw clues on a piece of paper. Tough luck if you don’t know how to handle a pen!

7. Contests. If you have some people over and some available room for maneuvers, you should have a dance competition or a singing contest, otherwise known as karaoke. And since it’s Christmas, you could turn it into a caroling contest! It’s festive and appropriate, meaning it goes super well with the theme so make sure you organize one. It will be a pleasure and a delight for everybody involved, just make sure whoever you appoint to be judge keeps a clear mind and remains objective!

8. Truth or dare. At 3 a.m. after you’ve exhausted all these other wonderful ideas, there is another super fun Christmas game you can play, even if you haven’t played it since high school. Go for the craziest, most unexpected dares and for the most intrusive, obnoxious questions!

These were the most creative ideas for fun Christmas games, researched and gathered especially for you, fun loving people! So break that routine and don’t sit on your couch all the way through your winter holidays, give these suggestions a try!
