Scientists have proved in various studies how puzzles and questions which are a little tricky to solve have forced human minds to be quick in response and visible sharper in noticing their surroundings.
· Scrabble: This is an excellent way to while away your time and learn new words and their usages. It is interesting to see how a single word grows on to become not one but many words by the mere addition of a few letters here and there. Reading a dictionary and jotting down new words on a daily basis may not be one of the interesting games that are fun to play. But through Scrabble, one can serve dual purpose of playing as well as learning.
· Jigsaw puzzles: One very good advantage of jigsaw puzzles is that you would get to buy a set according to your age. The level of difficulty and the number of pieces is according to the age. This means that for a 5 year old child, the set will contain a simple picture and 10 -12 large jigsaw pieces. Whereas, for an adult, the set will have a complex picture with pieces ranging from 500-700. Solving jigsaw puzzles is now very easy as you get it online as well.
· Memory enhancer: This game is a well-known game and a modified version of it is also used as a memory and cognitive skills enhancer for adults. In this game, you need to list out a number of random objects in a way that is audible to others. Give them 5 minutes and then ask them to write down the names of those objects on a piece of paper. A more difficult method would be to ask them to write down the names in the same order as they were mentioned.
Games are an integral part of our lives. Remember the saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.
