How to Appeal to Your Customers Emotions


 These days there are some much competition in the market that every company is trying to find ways to appeal to their customers’ emotions to sell their products. If you are in a marketing/sales position then here are some tips on how to appeal to your customers’ emotions. You should remember that people want to buy your products because of the benefits these products give them. So, you need to find ways to find out what your customers can get extra from your products other that just the benefits. It will increase your product’s demand and also now customers will want your product not only for its benefits. To find out this “Extra” benefit you need to appeal to your customers’ emotions. These days banks are trying to appeal to their customers’ emotions by giving tag lines like- they sell dreams not loans and etc. It means they are trying different approach to attract their customers other than just giving numbers and figures to persuade them. Also many banks are producing credit cards where customers can choose their own credit card and design it accordingly. We all have a tendency to carry our family picture with ourselves and all of us do carry credit cards with us. So, banks are giving you the chance to put your family picture or any favorite picture of yours to put in their credit cards.

 

Ø Gather as much information about your customers as you can: Your customers’ hidden demands or needs are your target when you   want to appeal to their emotions. This is why you need to collect as much information about your customers as you can. Some stores create membership card to keep a record of their customers and also come stores keep record of their products to know which products are being sold at which time of the year most. By keeping records of your regular customers you can know about their purchase habits and when they come to the store you can help them to find the right products for them. Also, if you know enough about them then when new products come to your store then you can inform them about them.

 

Ø People buy things based on emotion most of the time: When we go out for shopping, most of us do not use logic but we use emotion to buy things. So, when you are approaching your customer, try to know their preferences through small talks. Many salesmen create scarcity of the product in the minds of the customers so that they buy the product. It is a common approach and we customers fall to this trap most of the time. I know I do! Whenever a salesman says that I might not get the product the next time I come there, I always end up buying that product!

 

Ø Approach different age groups differently: You know that young people like to use the buzz words and aged people are more comfortable with the common words. So try to persuade different age groups differently. Also, young people want to stand out from the crowd and aged people want things that can be used by everyone in the family. This is why when selling a product to a aged people you should emphasize on sentences like “whole family can use it”, “great family pass time” or “easily usable by everyone in the family”.

 

There are so many similar products in the market that it has become necessary to appeal to your customers’ emotions to sell your products or get ahead of your competitors. It is not an easy task to appeal to your customers’ emotions because you need enough information and insight to figure out their hidden wants and needs but there are some common emotions that go through customers’ while buying some products like buying jewelries for loved ones or buying perfumes for others. Talk with the customer about the person for whom s/he is buying the product and then you can persuade them on buying your product by emphasizing on things like “This fragrance will go with her personality” or “this will match with her eye color”. Remember people always want the things that will give them the extra benefit the others cannot give. You need to get information out of your customers through small talking if you want to appeal to their emotions. So, be friendly, give a smile and approach your customer for an introduction when they come to you to buy anything.
