How To Balance Your Life


We all agree and in someway looking for the answer on How to balance your life? We all live in a world of cut throat competition, ambitious men and women constantly aiming at making it big in their careers. People in today’s world have become brand conscious. They want to wear designer labels and want to be proud owners of the latest brand of electronic gadgets and mobile handsets. No doubt all this is healthy desire to be the best. Thanks to the advent of Information Technology that have changed the lives and also the mindsets of the working middle class who is constantly striving to achieve the best for themselves and their families.

 

In the subject of economics there is a chapter that deals with ‘wants and needs’. There is a thin line of difference between what our wants are and what we actually need. In this mad race to satisfy his wants and needs man has forgotten to balance his personal and his professional life. The mad rush in the mornings, a hurried breakfast and getting children ready to go to school and finally reaching their place of work. Attending to work for the whole day, picking up children from tuition classes and rushing back home to prepare a meal, coping with children’s homework and then dinner and finally retiring for the night. This also includes socializing and late night parties with friends and colleagues. Day in day out this body clock is ticking away taking a toll on our health which leads to high blood pressure, heart trouble, diabetes and other stress related problems.

 

Then how do we lead a balanced personal and professional life without sacrificing our health at the altar of success, money, fame and ambition.’ No gain without pain’. A certain amount of stress is required to keep us fired with the drive and ambition to succeed in life, but we must not overdo at the cost of our own health and family life which gives a richer and complete meanings to life.Here are some tips on how to balance our personal and professional life.

 

Prioritize your life according to your needs and requirements: – Whether personal or professional we are faced with challenges everyday. We should learn to prioritize out life according to our immediate attention. If your office project and the renovation of the house comes up at the same time. Pay more attention to the office project and then shift your focus towards renovating your house.

 

Time Management: - Everything in life can be managed well if we know the value of time and its management. The wheels of our personal and professional lives can be kept running smoothly if we know how much time and attention is required for each task at hand. It is most important part in order to balance our lives.

 

Stress Management: - In this new age fast paced generation stress and tension have become a part and parcel of our lives. Early morning walks, deep breathing, yoga and meditation helps keep stress and tension at bay. Managing stress is of utmost importance to balance ones life.

 

Delegate and divide work: - Couples who know how to live a happy and a successful life know how to delegate and divide work between themselves and with people who help them in the house as well as the office. Handling of the mail, laundry, picking up children from school can be done by the helper of the house. Other tasks can be divided amongst people according to their nature and importance of the task.

 

Slow your pace: - You don’t have to meet friends every weekend or party or go out with your family on a picnic every weekend. You need to make time for yourself for e.g. read a book, catch up on a movie at home, talk to your spouse, talk to ageing parents or simply sit in the garden and enjoy the silence. A kind of serene peace will engulf you and tell you to take it easy and above all slow your pace.

 

Don’t juggle and don’t procrastinate:-We all know that in a day and in every family all over the world the same things are done everyday. However we need to understand that trying to do too many things in one day leaves us stressed out and tired. For e.g. we do not need to dust and swab the house everyday. It can be done once week, but do not procrastinate or put off other tasks for a later date for e.g. buying medicines which requires immediate attention.

 

Communicate with your boss: - You know you have a boss who is very good but is also a task master. Talking to your boss about allowing you flexible timings in your work. Coming in a little late than the usual time but leaving office a little late in the evenings. This will allow you to sleep a little longer in the mornings or help you join a gym. Also it would help to balance your life. 

 

Sleep Is Important: - Our bodies have a certain way of functioning. Understand your body’s need to get enough sleep, as a sleep deprived brain cannot function properly or think clearly. Sleep provide an important ingredient to balance your life.

 

As we all endeavor on our journey to live our lives as successfully as we can we must not forget that life is a game and the real players are the ones who know how to master this game called ‘life’.  It is a battle that needs to be one and that too with all our might. Winning can then be possible when we know how to balance our life and get the best out of it.
