How To Be Fit

You have probably seen all those shows on TV where people weigh every little item of food they eat on the scale so as not to exceed the recommended daily dose of proteins and such, and spend more than half a day at the gym just in order to be fit. From my point of view this seems a bit too much. I don’t agree that staying fit should be a matter of hard work, but more a matter of having fun. So if you want to know how to be fit and aren’t afraid to try something else other than what you normally see on TV, here is my advice.

1.      Do sports. I think that going to the gym is a waste of time. You only do exercise in order to be fit for doing exercise the next time you go to the gym. I agree that it helps you work all the muscle groups, and the specialized equipment can come in handy, but I just don’t find it fun. Going to the gym is like going to work. I think that exercise should be fun so here is my idea on how to be fit: play a lot of indoor and outdoor games. Football, tennis, basketball volleyball, badminton, anything will do. This way you get to hang out with your friends, have a lot of fun, and do all the exercise you need for one day.

2.      Swim. For me swimming is the ultimate sport. It works all the muscle groups and is one of the essential ways of learning how to be fit. You should try to get at least three to four hours of swimming every week. Just feeling weightless when you are in the water will help you with your everyday aches and pains you get from sitting in front of the computer all day.

3.      Take Scottish showers. This is not something I recommend for everybody, but if you feel like you are beginning to have a strong body this could one important ingredient for learning how to be fit. It builds up resistance in the organism, and a Scottish shower can be very rejuvenating. Basically a Scottish shower consists of alternating hot and could water in the shower. This means that you stay under for hot water for about a minute, and after that you turn it to cold water, and then to hot again and so on. The sudden change in temperature forces your body to react, and so you start to build up resistance. You should start with very slight changes in temperature, and after a while you can start getting more extreme, by turning the hot and could to as much as you can stand. This exercise is not recommended for people with heart conditions, because the temperature shock can be too much to handle.

4.      Focus on your breathing. This is a very important way of relaxing and getting over moments of exhaustion or hesitation in any kind of physical exercise. As long as you focus on having steady breathing, you will find that you are able to do a lot more than you thought. This is because when you reach a mental barrier and think that you can’t do any more, be it running or swimming or whatever, you tend to panic, and when you panic, you start breathing irregularly and that puts an enormous strain on your organism and just makes you tire quicker. So whenever you feel that you can’t do the exercise any more just start focusing on your breathing and you will be surprised by the results.

5.      Eat anything you want, but with moderation. This is the only thing that I think should be common for any kind of diet. There are the so called super foods and all other kinds of specially designed protein bars or stuff like that, that seem to hold the answer to a perfect diet, but for me I think the most important thing is not to eat in excess any single type of food. Just eat with moderation and try to eat from all the basic food groups every day.

This is my advice for you, if you want to know how to be fit. It’s not anything scientific; it’s just based on my personal experience. I think that exercise should be fun, and I always look forward to doing it, and never feel like it’s some kind of work. Some particular aspects of the training I do may not apply in your case, so try to find what is good for your body, and do that. And the thing you should remember most from this article is to try to have fun with every kind of exercise you do.
