A good leader knows when to delegate to accelerate success. That of course can only happen if the leader is foresighted and prudent, but if he/she is the type that likes everything done by him/her just so that glory will be theirs alone will succeed at nothing but running down the company. Delegating duties is the attitude of a wise leader whose focus is on accelerating a company’s progress and if you lack the knowledge which might be the case, then learn how to delegate to your team. 1.             Time constraint: One of the flimsy excuses people offer for not delegating is time. Most of the defaulters base their reason on the fact that they have no time to train team members the task. Obviously it is a mawkish one. A leader as long as it is within working hours must have time for nothing but building his/her team members and that includes bringing their skills up to date for future need which might be to delegate a task to them.

2.             Another reason why duties are not been delegated is based on lack of energy. Energy require to follow-up on how a team member is faring with the task to ascertain success, is short in supply.

a.    Know the task: before you can delegate duties, you must have an intimate knowledge of the task. Understand the task without this you cannot communicate the vital and detail requirements and instructions to the person you intend to assign a task. In addition, you must also be able to identify what tools you may need to make the task a success.

b.   Search for the right person: As a team leader you must know your members enough not to have problems in identifying the right person for the task. Incase you are wondering what constitutes the right person? The right person must be a motivated person, someone with the passion for the job, someone who has the relevant skill to execute it.

c.    Distinctly pass on the information about the task: You must take time to openly communicate the task. What should be communicated? Convey the expectations of the task, the fine details, the objectives, the importance of achieving the project and so on.

d.   After communicating the details of the task, next is to provide the needed resources to execute it. It could be time, technology, finance, people etc, everything that will be required must be use to achieve the goals of the task.

e.    Ensure that communication is effective. Did the person fully understand the details of the task? Make sure this aspect is confirmed before the person is allowed to commence with the execution of the job.
