How To Get Your Team Engaged
You need to be a team player in various stages of your life. If you want to be a successful player, researcher, manager, etc then you need to know how to get your team engaged because all of these roles need the support of other team players to achieve success. If you think that you can achieve all the success in life without the help of your colleagues or friends then you are mistaken. The support of your peers will help you to achieve your goals faster. This is why it is important to know how to get your team player engaged in their work.
· Motivate them towards a common goal: The first rule that you should follow to get your team engaged should be motivating them towards achieving the common goal. This is why it is necessary to define the goal that you are trying to achieve to your team first. If they are not motivated towards the goal then you can never get them engaged in the team work. If separate members have separate goals then also it can be distracting. So, if you are a team leader then pick a goal that will motivate all your team players but not some of them. For example: If you want to complete a project on time then you should describe the importance of that project in their professional career before you start working on it.
· Divide the work among the team members: If you are a team leader then you should divide all the work among your team members so that they feel that they are all a necessary part of the team. If you show any kind of biasness towards any specific members then that can disturb the harmony of the team. So, avoid any kind of biasness and also do not undermine any team member’s work. If you do not like his/her work then explain why the work is not up to the standard. Also, remember to divide the work according to each person’s strengths and weaknesses. You can also make sub-groups among the team.
· Show them respect: Respect each person’s work. Act like a true leader and appreciate everyone’s work. Remember the work can never be a successful one if each and every team player does not put his/her whole effort in it. A simple “Thank you” can be enough to show your appreciation towards your team members. If you think a team member needs help then do so and if you think someone is doing more work than others then reduce some of his/her work.
· Open communication should be practiced: Hold a meeting every week or after every working day if necessary and listen to what everyone has to say. All doubts and questions should be discussed with everyone and also everyone should be able to freely express their point of views. If the communication is both ways meaning the leader is open to the members and vice versa then the team work gets easier and also a sense of equality is established. As a result team gets more engaged in the work.
· Reward your team: Once the goal is accomplished, reward your team. It does not always mean that you have to give a raise in the salary or any bonus. A small treat of drinks or a day off can also be a reward. Just acknowledge the work that everyone has done and celebrate the occasion.
In your professional life, there will be many times when you have to work with a team. If you are a team leader then follow the above rules and they will definitely make your team get more engaged in the work. If you are a team member then you should also try to follow the rules set by your team leader. If you have any questions or doubts then you should clear them out. Do not be a slacker when working in a team. If you are avoiding work or depending on your team members then you should know this that they will notice your weaknesses and it can cause problem in the future team works. Always try to help each other. Working with team does not only include in our professional life but also in our student life when we work on any assignment as a team. The above rules can also be practices in this scenario. Remember a good team leader is not the one who is most efficient but the one who can work with others most efficiently.
