Presentations have become a part of our lives. We have to give presentation when we are students and we even have to give them in our professional life. Not all of us are good presenter but there are a few rules of successful presentations. If you are one of those people who want to become a good presenter or want to impress your boss with your fine presentation skills then this article is here to help you achieve that goal.

Here are a few rules of successful presentation:

·        Capture the audience’s attention: Always try to capture the attention of the audience from the beginning. There are some presenters who gradually capture the audience’s attention but if you want to give a successful presentation then you would like your audience to remember everything you said but not parts of it! So, start your presentation with confidence. If you hesitate then the audience can lose interest in you or start questioning your statements. This is why it is a must that you start your presentation with such confidence that the audience listens to you carefully.

·        Understand your audience: Make your presentation precise and understandable to the audience. There are some people who think that presenting complex data and figures will make then successful presenter but this is completely fault. Your presentation will become successful when everyone understands it. This is why it is important to understand your audience. Present them the things that they can understand the best and present them in your best way. Remember what you think is best may not be the best for your audience. So, know your audience and then prepare your presentation.

·        Do your homework: Questioning the presenter is a common thing. Sometimes the questioning is done after the whole presentation is finished or sometimes it is done during the presentation. If you want to give successful presentations then you should learn to defend your statements. This is why it is necessary that you do enough homework on the subject of your presentation so that you can give proper answers to the questions and also defend your statements when someone doubts your findings.

·        Do not take too much time: Make your presentations short. You should not tell any unnecessary things during your presentations. There are many presenters who tend to tell a long story before their presentation to make some points to the audience. Well if you want to give successful presentations then you should know that not everyone likes to sit around and listen to presentations. So, make your presentations short but do not leave out any important facts.

·        Make your slides visually appealing: Sometimes the visual of the presentation helps a lot to capture the audience’s attention. So, make your presentation attractive. Do not use too much color. Make it formal and also spend time in searching for appropriate pictures to go with you presentations. There are a lot of students who spend weeks on finding facts about their presentations but do not make their slides attractive. If you want to give successful presentations then do not do this!

·        Dress accordingly: Present yourself in front of the audience appropriately and according to your presentation. Boys do not forget to shave and girls do not come to the presentation with puffy eyes! Believe me because once I had been criticized by my professor that I looked very tired during the whole presentation which made the whole presentation boring!

·        Use the right tools: Make brochures or bring miniatures of things that you are presenting. If you are giving presentation about any product then you should bring that product and put it on the table.

Giving successful presentations is not a hard job. Many of you think that successful presentations require a lot of effort but if you follow these simple rules then I can assure you that you will definitely become a successful presenter. If you have a stage fright then you should practice your presentation a few times in front of the mirror. You can also present the whole thing in front of your family members or friends so that they can point out your weak points. Prepare everything the night before your presentation. Finish all your work at least 2 hours before your presentation so that you can prepare yourself properly. Speak clearly and loudly enough so that all the audience can listen to every word you say. Follow these few simple rules and you will definitely give successful presentations in no time!
