How To Motivate Husband To Loose Weight
Now-a-days obesity is becoming a big issue. Where ever we go we see people with heavy physique not even able to walk properly with their excess weight. Moreover because of the sedentary jobs people are not even giving a thought on their body and health. The result of this is frequent health problems and family disturbances. Many people even go to doctors for routine check ups of their weight and weight related problems. Generally men are not that concerned about weight until or unless his spouse or girlfriend takes that matter to him. Even if told by you it becomes a sensitive topic because your husband might feel bad about it and also might feel that you have started hating him because of his excessive weight (since he also knows it very well that he has put on weight). Nevertheless you can indicate to your husband and motivate him to loose his weight by following some tips which might be helpful.
By following these tips you may not make him loose his weight overnight but in the course of time, he might realize that weight is always a serious issue concerning his health. The tips to be followed are:
Study His Daily Activities:
Before giving him motivation just study his daily activities and the way of life he is leading in home and outside the house. This will be helpful for you to check the minor points which you might foresee because of the daily course work. This might be the food habits like “if he is having any junk food outside the house” or he is completely attached to his chair in office, the amount of exercise he is getting daily; sometimes due to any tensions also he might gain weight so keep an eye on this. By verifying this you can rule out some points and stress on those which are majorly affecting your husband’s weight.
Tip 1: If your husband is having junk food outside your house then indicate it in a polite manner by saying “I can prepare that food item in the house more neatly and tastily and hygienically. So please tell me if you want to have anything of that sort”. If he reacts positively then make sure when preparing any cuisine of his interest do not go for heavy oil or cheese stuffing. On the contrary, put any substitute which is harmless and reduces his weight in that item. He might not like it in the beginning but in the course of time he might show an interest for it. When he gets accustomed to that item in your style of cooking, gradually change it by preparing those items which have more fiber and which will be helpful in reducing you husband’s weight.
Tip 2: Even in your house, stock you refrigerator with healthy meal options like fresh fruits and vegetables. If in shopping malls your husband’s eye catches on the junk options indicate to him that in the course of loosing weight some sacrifices are necessary or else to be economical junk food options is not best.
Tip 3:Even after doing this some husbands are pretty egoistic and sneak at your back eating junk food. In that case your positive attitude always helps in dealing the situation. Sometimes go in for healthy teasing; that means the kind of teasing which you always used to do before your marriage or during the first years of your married life and husband used to like always without feeling bad. By doing this you make him to give a look at his body structure. Slowly when he becomes very conscious about his physique you can ask him to go for some physical exercises.
Tip 4:The amount of exercise which your husband gets daily can be studied easily. Also check the time period of his sleep. By ensuring this you can make some tiny changes in his sleeping period like if he is sleeping for 10 hours , change it to 8 hours gradually. Also motivate him to go for jogging. This can be done if you ask his help to be your jogging mate. If jogging is not possible at least an evening stroll or morning walks will be helpful. By doing this you can indicate to your husband that there can be some private time for you both to talk atleast in the walking. When he shows his interest then talk some light topics which are more joyful and make him laugh. This not only motivates him to join you in walking or jogging but also helps him reducing his weight “because laughing is the best medicine”. Normally after doing morning exercises, people generally tend to think that they had enough for the day and start sitting in the chair and working or watching movies. This will not be of any help rather by doing this they will be nullifying that small exercise which they did in the morning. In that case, constant reminding that sitting continuously will nullify the physical strain which he has done in the morning might be of some help; also do give him some suggestions like, to not to use the lift while coming out from office or walk certain distance before getting a taxi.
Tip 5: Sometimes it so happens that because of excess workload in office your husband might be getting tensed up and getting obese (people also get obese because of tensions). In that case, lend him your ear and give him confidence that everything will be alright.
Shower him your love in loosing weight but do not pamper him or pester him. Give him your support in loosing weight. Tell him that being obese does not lower your affection towards him. And your intention in indicating about his weight was to tell him to be fit and healthy. Obesity can come due to various reasons. But constant monitoring of one’s health and physical fitness exercises can lead to a healthy body, mind and soul.
