How To Overcome Your Fears

Why are you looking tensed? Is something wrong with you? What are you afraid of? You must have faced these questions sometime or other in your life, in fact most of us might have had. So, did you ever try to explore the answer to these questions? Today we can find hardly few people who live their lives without fear. And the rest of the people have fear of some kind or the other. It can be fear of heights, water, women, marriage, rejection, failure and so on. But what is more important here is to know how to overcome your fears.

Mind that our fear is just an emotion that acts as an instinctual response to potential danger and nothing more. Scientifically speaking the root cause of our fear is certain areas in our brain and chemicals like adrenaline and cortisol that are released into the blood stream which cause certain physical reactions such as increased blood pressure, rapid heart rate, increased sweating, dilation of pupils and tightening of muscles. Having said this it doesn’t mean that fear is something that always causes harm and is a bad thing. At times and on certain occasions one has to be afraid but then one should tackle it with appropriate caution. You should never allow your fears to have control over you and prevent yourselves from taking risk because this will limit you and form boundaries beyond which you cannot grow.

Here are some of the ways that will throw light on how to overcome and conquer your fears.

You Are Not Alone:

If you think that you are the only person on earth that has fears all around you then you are mistaken. Realize that there are many other people who are afraid of something. You should not loose control the moment your fear appears in front of you. You should gather the courage and confidence to face your fear. For example, if you are climbing a tree and suddenly you assume an ant or an insect hovering nearby and so you jump off from the tree taking the risk of injuring yourself keeping aside the fact that the ant was least bothered for you. As already said that others too have fears but their fears may not be the same as yours but they do fear something. So, you should never feel alone and isolate yourself from others. You should never have the feeling of being a weak person just because you are fearful in some domain. It’s better to discuss about your fear with your friends, to find someone who has the same fears as you have and then find a way through them that can help you out.

Fight Slowly and Steadily:

I feel proud to say that my father is the best teacher. He has made me learn driving. Although the task wasn’t easy as I was an amateur and also had the fear of falling down and ramping the vehicle onto someone else’s. But the way my father taught me was extra ordinary. He made me learn everything step by step and now I have overcome all the fears of mine. Today, I can drive on the busiest roads. Panic is no solution to learning. Rather than running away from your fears you should always try to overcome your fears slowly and steadily. If you are about to do a task, which you are afraid of then what you can do is make a list of small steps you think you can perform and slowly complete each step.

Chance for Growth:

Try to think out of the box. Don’t be afraid of stepping out from your comfort zone with the fear of something happening wrong. Always try to explore new things and take risks because as the saying goes “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”. Spend few minutes on yourself and think what would you be free to do that you aren’t free to do now because of your fear? Imagine how your life would have been different if you weren’t afraid of it? Try to find out the potential benefits of overcoming that fear. Now if you have the answer to these questions then you will see your fear as an opportunity to grow. So, take a pen and a paper and jot down the points about how you imagine your life will be different when you overcome that fear that has dogged you for so long.

Failure is the key to success:

We all remember Thomas Alva Edison for his invention of the incandescent light bulb but does any one of us remember Sir Humphrey Davy? Well, hardly any. Do you know that he has came up with the idea that electricity could make a thin strip of platinum glow and give off light years before Edison invented light bulb. But just because of platinum being expensive that time he didn’t develop it further. Having insufficient resources is different than not trying and implementing the idea just because you have the fear of getting failed. Remember if you have never failed, you have never lived your life. Always try again & again unless you don’t succeed.

Do not be always dependent on others. They can only support you. It’s finally you who can drive the fear out. Try to face your fears head-on and allow them to become opportunities to move into new places in your life. You can also try number of natural herbal and homeopathic remedies for overcoming your fears. Ultimately the choice is truly yours.
