How to Present Your Main Idea

So you got an idea which you need to sell? Finding or Getting the main idea is one part of the problem, selling it is entirely different. The Idea has got no meaning till the time you sell it. It is just like another invention which is destined to flop till the time there are not enough people to buy the concept. There are many people in this world with many great ideas but only few make it to the big league, reason- all they lack is an art to sell. Same happens in the organizations too where no matter how great the main idea you have, it’s worthless till the time your boss or management approves it. It’s a situation where at one end your ideas are slaughtered like anything while on other end you are being accused with lack of out-of-box thinking. No matter how beneficial an idea is, it lacks the punch till the time it is presented with equal zeal and with effective strategy. If you need to prosper, you not only need to conceive the idea but should also know how to sell it in a rocking manner.

 

How is it Possible? Well it’s an art which can have many forms. The one I would like to talk about is when you keeps everything exposed yet cover it in a manner that the main idea gets wide acceptability.

 

So let’s start by what you do currently and then what need to be changed in future. Whenever you have got a rocking idea what you do

 

1)     You conceive and conceptualize it based on your current environment

2)     You wrap it nicely in a powerful power point presentation

3)     You go ahead and present it by giving your best

 

Leave alone presentation, even introducing the concept in a normal discussion serve the same purpose.

 

When you do that what happens

 

1)     People listen to it

2)     Ask questions and make presumptions

3)     Start to find fault and look for unfavorable scenarios

 

 

Yes, this happens. The main problem you would see is

 

1)     People would find issues and problems in it

2)     They would start to give their own solution

3)     They would introduce many conflicting situations and scenarios

4)     Ultimately the discussion would be stalled because of lack of clarity or unsolvable issues

 

In effect your main idea

 

1)     Gets slaughtered

2)     Gets ripped apart

3)     Gets no justice

 

 

Why this happens? Because

 

1)     People have habit to interpret information in their own form

2)     They are always never convinced that anyone can come up with an idea

3)     They consider themselves master in analyzing any idea from head till tail

 

 

Whose Fault is this? This is entirely your fault because

 

1)     You gave them opportunity to kill it

2)     You gave them opportunity to challenge their ego

3)     You gave them opportunity to pass their time

What you can do in such scenarios?

 

1)     Steal the show

2)     Get better of them

3)     Remain a step ahead

 

How you do that? Simple- Don’t keep any part open.

 

Yes, whenever you got a Main Idea. Always

 

1)     Find the Benefits or positive part of it

2)     Find the Negative or conflicting part of it

 

Next Step- You should present it in manner that

 

1)     All benefits should be highlighted in best manner

2)     All negatives are put on table

3)     Give you perspective on negatives

 

 

Remember, The essence of your discussion should not be

 

1)     What is negative about your ideas, but

2)     You idea is great, what can the company do about the negative part of it.

 

 

Yes, present it in a manner that

 

1)     Focus is not your idea

2)     Focus is the positive part of it

3)     Focus is the negative part of it

 

People like to be fed. They need to run their brains and give their perspective too. Make sure you do that by

 

1)     Taking the discussion away from idea

2)     Making them think of what more positive things can be done

3)     Making them think of how to counter negatives

 

 

Never hide anything because they would find it eventually.

 

Always know

 

1)     Where you want to take discussion

2)     What need to be talked about

3)     What need to be avoided

 

Whenever discussion losses its path, be harsh to bring it back.
