How To Read More Books – Develop Habit And Remove Guilt
I can’t think of a good time where I would not have a good book beside me to read and enjoy. It is a luxury for me to have books of my taste and the ones that give a kick to my senses. Yes, I do like watching movies but both are just incomparable. My taste is different and more inclined towards how we can make difference to our lives. On contrary my wife likes fiction and loves to live in world of imagination. I still remember hours we spent together in local bookstore to find books that really suits our taste. Amazon is a great online place but a small review or reading first few pages generally gives you a grip on what would come in following chapters. My biggest worry has always been and would always remain how to find more books that suits my taste and get them quickly on my schedule.
Situation was different few years back when I used to run away from books and had developed a phobia for it. It was fun to buy books and read few pages but after that it was zilch. The frustration at that point was more related to consistency then to have anything worth digesting. I had become more of a dream to read complete book and have more of them each passing day. I knew no matter how much I try I could not disassociate myself from them and would get back whenever I had slightest opportunity. Sometimes I used to satisfy my urge by reading more articles from newspaper or some magazine but they seldom lack the enjoyment you get from a flow that gets developed by reading a book. I knew I had to return to them and make them part of life. I am happy I did and my blog is an extension of thoughts that has got refined because of my habit of reading more books.
So if you love books and want to read more of them but could not do so then this post is for you. I hope this post would analyze the problem for you and would prepare you for next step
When we buy a book
1) The Idea is to enjoy it
2) The Idea is to learn from it
3) The Idea is to get a peep into the mind of author
We do buy a book but problem is
1) We read few pages then leave it
2) Some urgent things come and we don’t touch it for few more days
3) When we touch it again we tend to start from the first page again.
This cycle continues till the time we buy another book
1) We start to read that book as it is more interesting than the former
2) Soon we get busy again and leave the book in between
3) Again after gap of few days we start it to drop the book again
This Habits leads to Guilt
1) Your collection of book increases
2) All these books now needs to be read
3) It becomes more of a task than a pleasure activity
Ultimately you reach a situation where
1) You cannot buy more because of backlog
2) You cannot read them because you won’t know from where to start
3) Even if you start the tension of having more books to read discourages you
This cycle continues and soon you develop a phobia for books. You
1) Cannot throw away those books
2) You are not interested in reading them
3) There is no one who can help you in such situation.
I have found maximum people who suffer from this problem and tons of people who have never developed the habit of reading a book. People just fail to understand that it is an excellent exercise and pleasure activity one can have for their mind. Even if they love the wall of guilt has become so big that they prefer to run from it.
But there is a solution to it. It has helped me and I hope this would help the readers two.
1) At any point buy 2 to 3 books only to start with.
2) Take One book Out to read
3) When you finish that book partly put a book mark on the page you have left.
Now go to your job, vacation, or get busy with plenty of tasks. You don’t need to worry because your book is still waiting for you to start from the page where you have left. It is like viewing a television program after a pause.
When you again get the time
1) Start from the page you have left
2) Don’t start form first page because the story is already in your mind
3) You don’t need to learn it by heart. It is just the story or concept that you have to enjoy.
After That- Most Important Part is to
1) Finish that Book
2) Don’t start with second book till the first one is complete
3) Don’t take out any other book from the shelf
When You finish a Book
1) You get a felling of completeness
2) You get a feeling of achievement
3) You feel good and proud of yourself.
This is simple method and I am sure most of you must know about it. But important point is that
1) It is effective
2) It gives results
3) It makes you good reader
These are small habits we ignore in our everyday life and get burdened with worthless guilt and remorse in our heart.
Kill the Guilt.
When you develop a habit buy dozens of books. You don’t need to worry about your purchase.
