Importance Of Honesty In Relationships

It’s almost a cliché nowadays but it is also true that nothing beats the importance of honesty in relationships. Honesty builds trust and trust is the foundation to any long lasting relationship. Many people don’t know what the basic steps that need to be taken to build a completely open and honest relationship are. This is small guidebook that tries to answer some of these questions. In my experience, complete honesty is a very hard thing to achieve because you can work on it day after day for years, and it takes just one slip up to destroy everything you so painstakingly built. So, my advice to you is to try to get to grips with the everyday routine of being honest in a relationship, because nothing is more important, and you must also remember that being honest for a long time doesn’t make a lie ok, and that it amounts to nothing if you consider it as a favor that you are doing to your partner.

So here are some basic guidelines that you will need to follow if you are going to consider the importance of honesty in a relationship:

·        Be truthful. Nothing is more important than telling the truth. Of course there will be some moments when you consider the fact the truth isn’t always the less hurtful way to go. Sometimes you will feel the urge to spare your partners feelings when it comes to the way they look or dress or cook or so on. From my experience I can assure you that that is a sure way to get into trouble later on. If your girlfriend asks you whether she looks better than al the supermodels on TV, or more objectively, whether she isn’t as tall as they are, even though she always has to climb on a chair to get to the top shelf, you must always answer truthfully. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try to say the truth in such a way that it won’t get you into trouble. For example, in this situation you should answer that, she is smaller than the supermodels, but it suites her very well, and that for you, she is a hundred times prettier than any girl on TV. So, you should always tell the truth, but you just have to be careful how you tell it. This is how the importance of honesty in a relationship is put to the test: if the partner can take the objective truth.

·        Always express your true feelings and never have any secrets. Most relationships come to a point where everything seems to be going fine, and after years of happiness, everything explodes into a big fight and in a few minutes, everything you have worked for, for years, is blown to smithereens. This usually happens because the partners in the couple put on fake faces and don’t express their real feelings. This can start in a very simple way, with one partner not wanting to burden the other with his or her problems, or not wanting to hurt their feelings about a sensitive subject. This can develop into a habit, and so, everything gets bottled up inside. It takes just one little spark to light the fuse, and everything that has not been said or expressed comes pouring out. This is the kind of fight that takes no casualties. Letting out all that frustration usually leaves no room for turning back. So, in order to prevent this, you must always be honest, always let your true feelings known. Secrets can do their damage in the same way. Your partner will know if you will have something to hide, and in that way he or she won’t be able to trust you as much. And if trust isn’t solid in a relationship than everything can go down the drain. If you are not able to tell the truth and be honest about your feelings with your partner, than I can safely say that you have a very week foundation on your relationship. That is the importance of honesty in relationships.

So, these are just a few things I have learned along the way. Of course there are a lot of other elements that make up a solid healthy relationship, but for me nothing beats the importance of honesty in relationships. You must be at ease with your partner, as you would be with yourself. Never have anything to hide because it will just fester inside you, until you crack. Honesty is the only real key towards trust, and trust is the only firm foundation to a healthy relationship. So, I hope I could give you some good advice, but remember; only you know what you need to do to make your relationship work.
