Indoor Games For A Birthday Party
When you had a special event to organize, you may have wondered what are the best, and most practical indoor games for a birthday party. Well, the quest is over because we have rounded up the cream of the crop and we are going to make them known for you.
First of all, you have to think of it this way: the qualities of a perfect game are that it doesn’t use up a lot of resources and that mostly anybody can take part in it. So keep in mind that we used this criteria to compile out little list. Secondly, just because a game has been out there for a while doesn’t mean it’s not positively brilliant. Quite the opposite, the more generations have played and tested it, the surer you are that it will be an instant hit with your crowd. And thirdly, I hope you enjoy this lot and that you give them a run for their money as soon as you get the chance.
1. Mime your way out of it. Miming, the eternal classic. It can be played wherever you feel like, with how many participants you feel like (4 participants would be a safe minimum though). The most notorious variation of this game is when you split the party in two teams and a member of your team goes to the other team to receive a word. They in turn will try to mime that way in front of their own team so that the team guesses in the shortest amount of time. Whoever guesses gets to mime next on behalf of that team. This is one of the most ideal indoor games for a birthday party because it’s fun and it gets your mind working. Played correctly, it can last until morning.
2. Have a dancing competition. If people aren’t dancing or they aren’t generally being very dynamic, you need to start them up somehow. Why not propose a little face off for them to showcase their moves, grooves and other dancing chops? It’s one of the most hilarious indoor games for a birthday party and it gets the adrenaline pumping. There are two musts, however: don’t let members of a couple dance together (assemble the pairs randomly) and put on the silliest music you can. You will have a successful party in a heartbeat.
3. One word: Ka-ra-oke! Who-hoo! It might be an excruciating experience for your neighbors, but it’s funny as hell. You can make it a solo act or get people to sing in duos, put the basic thing is to choose the most ridiculous music imaginable. Think Mariah Carey or Vanilla Ice. Just choose a very impartial person to act as judge and jury and then make the criteria for winning not who sang the best, but who had the most powerful stage presence.
4. Truth or dare. Especially for a birthday party, I suggest a new and improved version of truth or dare. You make it so that every truth said must be about or in relation to the birthday girl or boy and that every challenge must be performed for or to that very same person. Depending on the level of tolerance of that person, you can expect them never to celebrate their birthday again.
5. Board games or card games. If your gathered bunch is older and more mature you can choose a game that will suit respectable citizens. Such as bridge, or poker. You can play for money or matches, your choice. If you are less than serious, however, you may be inclined to choose Monopoly or Risk or The Colonists of Catan which are all very fine strategy board games. But, these indoor games for a birthday party only suit a rather small amount of players (for the Colonists of Catan the maximum is 4, for Risk it’s 6 and for Monopoly it’s 8) so you should count them in only if you’re planning an intimate sort of party.
6. Twister. A huge favorite among contortionists all around the world is Twister. The game has been around for ages and it still is one of the most sought after items on the market. It doesn’t exploit your brain capacity so much, but focuses on your physical capabilities and most people will tell you it’s one of the most brilliant indoor games for a birthday party ever.
7. Saboteur. This is a rather new find, but it’s impossible not to get addicted to so it inevitably made the list. You need some special playing cards which have midgets, pieces of underground tunnel or chunks of gold on them. If you extract the working midget card your mission will be to try to build the tunnel in order to find the gold and if you extract the evil midget (or the Saboteur) you will have to do anything in your power to stop the midgets to reach their target. The smartest thing in the game is that you don’t even know in the beginning whom you’re playing with and whom you’re playing against, but you will find out by the end.
These were the classiest and most awesome indoor games for a birthday party. Give them a try and get the party started!
