Is Honesty Important

If you were wondering is honesty important I can assure you straight from the start that it is absolutely vital in any type of relationship. On the flip side, lying is the worst approach somebody could choose whether in an amorous relationship, a friendship or in a business environment. Think of it this way: if someone catches you red handed, they won’t be able to trust you ever again because they will know you are used to lying. If people find out you lied once (if it was about something important it’s much worse than if it was about a trivial piece of information) they are always going to wonder if you are telling the truth or not, not matter the situation. That’s why being known as a liar is just like wearing a stigma in the Middle Ages was – you just can’t shake off the mark after that. So tell the truth however bad it might sound in order to avoid feeling ashamed and humiliated for all your days left to live in civilized society.

What are the most common reasons for lying? You may be very surprised to hear this, but the most common reasons for lying are used in order to maintain that spotless appearance achieved only by confessing the truth. For example, you may lie at work to cover up a mistake you made which was entirely your fault. It isn’t justified even if you were afraid to get fired, that is no excuse. The purpose of this deceit is to preserve the image that you are a perfect employee. I am sure that your boss knows everybody makes mistakes once in a while so he would sooner think you step outside the lines a little bit than embrace the notion of a perfect streak. Also, employees might fabricate excuses when they want to postpone deadlines. Inventing a sick relative or a hospital visit is a really cheap trick and if busted you might have to face severe sanctions. So next time you ask yourself is honesty important think of how unprofessional and even downright ridiculous dishonesty would make you look.

The controversy surrounding white lies. A white lie is an untruthful scenario given to avoid hurting someone’s feelings. It is supposed to be innocent and used only to sweeten the truth. Also, it is most commonly used in romantic relationships where partners will do close to anything to conserve a joyous and peaceful climate. Another good example of a white lie is things you tell children when they are not old enough to find out about certain adult practices. In this case, it is acceptable, even though you could choose to explain to your children the truth from the begging, even if that makes you dance around the subject for a while. But in any other case, it is definitely cruel to be kind. Think of how ridiculous your partner would feel if they somehow found out your real feelings about that new pair of shoes they got. That is why instead of lying you can choose to be diplomatic. Never state your unfavorable opinions with a mean smirk, but with an open disarming smile. If your intentions are not to hurt, explain it to your partner that you respect them too much not to state your opinion frankly. Tell them to ask themselves is honesty important in your relationship and he or she will understand exactly what you are talking about.

What benefits does sincerity bring to the table? Being truthful is really hard and maintaining this feature in all the areas of your life is even more difficult. But, being honest shows you are a person with a strong character, a dependable figure. It shows you have values and that you stick to them, even when it is less convenient for you. If you use total transparency in the workplace, if you continuously offer your boss accurate reports without omitting any of the touchier subjects, your boss will definitely start to feel like you are a person worthy to be trusted. You will gain a reputation for being responsible and accountable for all your actions and you will become an asset to your company. Other qualities which come hand in hand with sincerity are integrity and dignity, things which you should definitely strive for. If this doesn’t answer why is honesty important, nothing else will.

In conclusion, it appears that the simple question is honesty important remains simple. The answer is a strong, loud and firm Yes! Because lying complicates your life until you won’t know which lie you’ve told whom. Because lying can endanger your career and discredit you permanently in your personal life. Because showing you’ve got will and character by always sticking to your beliefs pays of somehow and even if it doesn’t pay through material triumph, you will keep your clear conscience. For all these reasons and many more, you should always value honesty – both in others and in yourself.
