Job Interview Advice How To Sell Yourself

Before we talk any further lets talk about something that happens around you in your everyday life.

Think of the beauty cream. Ever seen its advertisement

1)     You would see a good looking famous model endorsing it.

2)     The pitch is more around the way it helps you to stay and look beautiful

3)     It then offers you the advantage in terms of more acceptance

Ever wondered why they don’t

1)     Seldom talk about its cream constituents except the prominent one

2)     Talk about how it is made and gets packaged

3)     Talk about how it gets transported or pass through one channel to another

No, You wont hear it all? Why?

1)     Because they sell what interests you.

2)     In limited time they need to get your 100% attention

3)     Losing the pitch equals a big failure for them.

It is no different from elevator pitch where you need to offer all benefits in short time to make someone interested in you.

Now lets come back to the job interview techniques or skills. Compare it with your question, tips, advice, answer or techniques and you would find a remarkable difference.

A question was posed to some people recently. It involved a mix of experienced and first time job seekers. The question was- What they would tell to the interviewer in first five minutes.

Almost all of the answers centered on

1)      They would tell interviewer what they have done

2)     They would focus on things they know

3)     They would talk about the projects they have done

Step back and give a close look on the answers. They are nothing but

1)     Telling interviewer what is already there in your resume

2)      Offering no wow factor on your candidature

3)     Probably putting you on same platform as that of others.

People fail to realize that

1)     They need to sell themselves in few minutes

2)     They need to offer benefits of hiring them

3)     They need to offer something different away from the normal.

Instead the Pitch should be around

1)     Why your candidature matters

2)     What benefits you bring to the table

3)     Why they need to select you

Talk About

1)     The targets you have achieved in your last job

2)     The great projects you have converted

3)     The profits you have brought on board

If your job is internally focused

1)     Talk about the improvements you have brought

2)     Talk about the successes you have got within team

3)     Talk about how your position and presence have helped the company

If this is your first Job

1)     The benefit you projects has offered to other party

2)     What benefit in real life you have got from subject you have studied

3)     What qualities in you would make you rock on the job.
