Know What Your Employees Want From You


Being a leader is undoubtedly one of the most difficult jobs. When you are a CEO or boss of a company you not only have to direct the working strategies but also the feeling, actions, attitudes and behaviors of the whole group. If you want to be a successful boss you have to know what your employees want from you. I am sure when you started your career you also have some expectations from your bosses you had worked with. With the time and situation your positions changes, you get promoted, your outlook and perspective towards your profession also changes with these variables. But those who are currently in that position where you were once have the same sort of expectations from you as you had from your boss. 

 

As a top executive you should have a look on the following list where you will find know what your employees want from you:

 

·        Guidance: as a boss they want complete guidance from you including their role in the company, what they have to do and what are the rules they need to follow. It is not that you need to tell them each and everything, all you need to do is set some parameters and let them work within extensive outlines. You should also let them know what you expect from them very clearly. If you communicate with them clearly about the demand and expectation part then it will make the working environment hassle free and friendly as well. Time to time check on with your employees, you can call a sudden meeting, or can even talk to them personally during the office hour to know some more detail of their current project or works. Also give them suggestion on improving their efficiency in a friendly tone so that they become encouraged.

·        Appreciation: each and every individual loves to get appreciation of their work no matter how trifle it is. Your employees also expect appreciation and praise of their works from you. Appreciate them in both private and public. It also works as a motivational force at the end of the day. Do not keep on criticizing them about their weakness. As a boss you should criticize your employees’ work if they do something wrong or below the expectation level but keep it within a healthy level. Your criticism should followed by appreciation. For example, tell them how much they are capable of doing and how high your expectations are about their performances. This will ease the bitterness of criticism in a very positive way.

·        Feedback: Try to feedback your employees regularly. Feedback can be both positive and negative and sometimes it can be neutral like developmental feedback. Feedback is really necessary for new employees who are still not well acquainted with the company’s policy, work style and other factors. Giving feedback makes them feel that as a boss you value their work and want them to improve.

·        Cool working environment: Nobody wants a monotonous and apathetic working environment. Fun at work is the demand of each employee especially in the corporate world. But this fun does not mean arranging games or any other entertaining activity. It means making the work place a friendly, easy going place where people love to come and feel comfortable while working. It is like set fire to the passion of your employees by making a work friendly office environment both physically and mentally.

 

These the very common list of things that your employees most likely want from you.  Try to communicate with your employees and ask them few light questions about their life, like “how was your weekend?” This type of interaction will help you to make your relationships easy going with your employees from your side and from their side they will feel valued. As a boss or manager it is your duty to guide your whole team and inspire them as well. Let them take some small decisions sometime; give them the liberty of working on their own pace. All of these will inspire them. This does not mean let them do whatever they like to; it means let them use their potential the way they want to under your supervision. Often companies arrange sessions to motivate their employees on the specific sectors they are currently working on. So motivation is a very important key where as boss your employees’ want you to play an important role. You can also arrange an informal meeting to know what your employees want from you. Of course no by asking them what they want, rather by discussing various issues with them to get their point of view.

 

 

As a boss you are the mentor of successful people of your company and when you can successfully do this both sides win.
