List Of Debate Topics
Debate is one of the most important academic endeavors in which students are encouraged to participate. From high school to college, especially in the U.S. the best schools pride themselves with their debate team. Debate is an incredibly important tool that many students will find useful in the development of their carriers. In many countries around the world the debate model has been applied successfully in the public school system. List of debate topics can be found pretty easy in almost all domains, but in order for a great debate you will find that some topics have much more to offer than others. So, let’s see a list of List of debate topics that will trigger passionate arguments and develop interesting dialogues.
1. Can inter-ethnic conflicts be resolved by an international tribunal or the United Nations acting as referees; or only by the means of force and direct negotiations between the warring parties? This topic can be focused on two important case studies: the disintegration of the former Yugoslav Federation, which saw lots of armed conflicts that led to condemnation of genocide, and crimes against humanity form The Hague International Tribunal of the leaders of the warring parties for ethnic cleansing; and The conflict in the Mid-East which is still unresolved till this day with Palestinians on the one side and Israeli on the other claming legitimate control of the same territory.
2. Should The United States of America take on the role of “the policeman of the world” after remaining the only superpower of the world at the conclusion of the Cold War, in a global community where the United Nations doesn’t have the means to enforce their decisions? This debate should focus on the lack of power of the United Nations to enforce their decisions. Creating a global army that would make the U.N. more credible in its threats for dictators, instead of just economic embargo is not a viable option, so the focus of this debate should be weather the U.S. should take on this role as a responsibility for the fact that it is the only remaining superpower of the world.
3. Are academic credentials better in the long run than entrepreneurship and hands on approach from an early age? This debate should focus on the fact that although most studies suggest that getting a great education, from high school to college, to a doctorate degree, will ensure you a stable and better paid job, there are a lot of success stories of people who made huge companies by dropping out of college and focusing all their energy from a young age to developing their idea, such as Steve Jobs, The founder of Apple. This is just one of the many List of debate topics that can be found in this domain, of scholarship.
4. Should pharmaceutical companies do more in the effort to eradicate AIDS from Africa? This debate topic seems pretty one sided at first but after a lot of documentation certain facts level the playing field. Pharmaceutical companies that make AIDS drugs are already selling them at incredibly low prices compared to other parts of the world, in Africa, and there is a limit to what prices they can reach, because researching these drugs costs billions of dollars, and if they don’t sell at a profit, they will eventually go bankrupt and than their will be no more AIDS drugs. In the same sense, there is a huge problem with corruption and distribution of these drugs in African countries, and not to mention that a bigger problem is that most people in Africa don’t own watches, which they would need in order to take the correct doses of medicine at exactly the right time. So, starting from these facts, should the pharmaceutical companies do more for eradicating AIDS in Africa?
5. Should wealthier countries in the European Union limit the right to work in their countries to people from poorer countries? Working for lower wages creates a paradox: on the one hand, local businesses will be helped by the fact that they will pay their employees less, but on the other, unemployment will grow in these countries because native citizens will have fewer jobs. This is another one of the many List of debate topics found for this kind of problem that appears in many regions around the world.
Debate is one of the most important ways a student can develop some of the skills he will undoubtedly need in his future carrier. List of debate topics can be found in many places such as specialized sites and publications, but I believe that just a few of these List are able to spark a true and passionate debate. The List above I think will do just that. Good luck, and May the best debate team win!
