This is a controversial subject because very few people believe in the word miracle. The reason is because it is a spiritual exercise and since most people living in this highly physical world have since lost their sense of spiritual touch, the subject remains a controversial one. Do you know that your existence is a miracle? Science may have done a splendid job at erroneously explaining away the issue of human evolution and existence of life, but one thing remains constant, whether by evolution, big bang, and other idealistic explanation of the existence of the world – all is a miracle because a miraculous event brought the very first animal humans and other life may have evolved from. There is an element of miracle present in all explanation of the existence of life, or is it magic? The relevance of miracle goes beyond the individual because in every miracle there is sustenance and when there is sustenance you have impact either within a small microscopic setting or a larger setting extending to the society as a whole. In other words, a miraculous intervention is infectious. Example, if Miss A, experienced a miracle, she tells Mr. B, C, and so forth, there is a tendency of influence either consciously or unconsciously. So in writing the miracle and its relevance to the society, the effects and other issues will be discussed.

What Is A Miracle

A miracle is a supernatural intervention in the life of humans. In other words, it can also be described as a divine intervention from a supernatural being. In English dictionary like Oxford dictionary, it is said to be a “supposedly supernatural event”. Well, whether it is a “supposedly” occurrence or realistic occurrence, one thing is feasible for all to see. Look around you what do you see? Have you ever wondered how rain continues to fall as at when due, the sun appearing constantly when due, how the sky stay suspended without one day falling, the body of waters, flowers appearing in their varieties, animals, living things, human’s complex make up, how a baby grows in the womb of her mother etc? The world is so wonderful and so complex to have been formed by mere chance. Surely, it takes the hands of a supernatural being to bring this to pass. If you evolved from another animal many years ago (according to scientist explanation of evolution), why haven’t you evolved again? So there are tell-tale signs of the evidence of the true existence of miracle. Come to think of it, do you know that man’s invention (discoveries) like aviation, robots, internet, automobiles, building and construction, ship, electricity, medical breakthrough etc closely resembles a miracle and if by a freak of nature, great ancient personalities get to see how the world has transformed into such an hyper advance society don’t you think they will describe these works as a miracle? So, if a man can perform or create wonderful things that can easily pass as a miracle, how much more the real miracle, don’t you think it is a confirmation that there is an original super being somewhere that is capable of performing greater feats?

There are records of miracle taking place here and there; in the hospitals, road, offices, homes etc. This goes to show that there is indeed miraculous events occurring everywhere. Unfortunately, to believe this, requires believing in spiritual things and one of the ways to accomplish it is to study the relevance of miracles in the society.

Why Miracle

God created man in His own image primarily to communicate with man and it includes worshiping and serving Him as God. However, due to the sin of disobedience, man was driven out of the Garden of Eden losing that physical contact, favor and grace from God. Although, man may have lost physical contact etc with God, he thankfully did not lose the Love of God. So in the bible, events of the past through the different human eras into the present contemporary society, God often intervene in the life of man especially in time of problems simply because He is Love. That is a brief origin of why miracles take place. This is it, next is the discussion of relevance of miracle.

Importance Of Miracle To The Society

Miracles are meant for man and since man make up the society, every divine intervention men experience affects the society in the long run.

1.   One of the relevance of miracles to man is that it is a constant reminder of the greatness and presence of God

2.   Every miracle event comes with cleansing and deliverance. Therefore, through miracle the recipient is made whole and in return becomes a better person who in his quota impacts others, who impact others and so on.

3.   Miracle happens because the recipient pleased God and as such expecting miracle induces one to change, so it is a good thing. Imagine how the world will be if everyone believes in miracle, it will be a better place for all to live in because pleasing God entails doing all that is good like; showing love to your neighbor, genuine repentance, adopting the spirit of forgiveness, believing and accepting his gift of salvation through His son Jesus Christ, pursuing peace with others etc.

The relevance of miracle is Gods way of keeping touch with His creation; improving lives, showing that He is God, reminding man of His love and interest in all their endeavors.
