Opinions And Advice – How To Make Best Use of Them

Sometimes my job is everyone’s job. At times I have been given a job which eventually turns out to be everyone’s job. So if you finally turn up handling such jobs, you tend to have plenty of opinions and advice from almost everyone who is involved with you. The situation becomes more complicated when you have to take a decision and everyone has an advice for you. How smartly you handle opinions and advice determines the level of maturity you demonstrate on your job. And yes it is an important aspect of communication because not only you have to ensure that the person in front is being heard but also their opinion and advice matters a lot to you. Sometimes I just wonder how adept people are at the top who display this art day in and day out in their job.

Leave apart the job, even in our personal life how well our relationship works depends upon how effectively we communicate. Opinions and Advice are part of it just because we want good things for people we love and they want it for us too. The problem at times occurs at both ends of channel. The better the channel s, the more prone it is for exploitation. You may not be surrounded by people who give you best of their opinion and advice and at same time even if you getting best of those you may not be acting on them at all. How we handle this aspect of communication definitely defines our path to growth and success in life.

Opinions And Advice How To Make Best Use of Them

So, what do you think of an Opinion. Well to me it’s just a point of view. Each individual has the right to express themselves and opinion is just an expression of their thought. But problem I have seen with people is that

1) They seem to think that what they have thought is the best way to go

2) A person giving opinion is contradicting their point of view

3) It is a direct attack on their ego and personality

And the worst of it

1) They argue

2) The lose temper

3) They just don’t hear.

People fail to understand that

1) It is just an opinion and expression of their thoughts

2) It is they who has to decide what is best for them

3) Respecting someone opinion and getting good parts from it reflect your maturity.

Take the Opinion in the spirit of the opinion no matter who expresses it. Your positive attitude will give

1) People satisfaction that they are being heard

2) Satisfy their ego

3) Will reflect nicely on your personality.

Do it and you would Rock. Let their energy flow out.

Now on Advice- Advice is what other person has thought should be the best course of action for you or your problem in hand. It depends upon who gives you advice that

1) Sometimes you immediately act on it without thinking

2) Sometimes you think everything you have heard is a waste

3) Sometimes you don’t heat it at all leave aside taking any action on it.

It is important to take advice as a status check on your thoughts. But letting it influence your thoughts is again a mistake. The best of people I have seen are those

1) Who listens to everyone and take their advice

2) Asses the situation wrt to their thoughts and advice they have got

3) Do what is best for them and stand by their decision

Yes, they stand by their decision because

1) They have done the due diligence before taking a decision

2) They have looked into every aspect of their decision

3) They are eager to take questions and to make other people believe in their decision

And In process they make everybody feel important. Just by valuing their opinions and Advice.

You may be best at your Job. You may the best person to handle any tough situation. But How you value opinions and advice determine How far You would go in life.

Listen to people. Hear them out. Take it as Valued Second opinion. You never know when you get a nugget of information from what they have in their mind.

Value Opinions and Advice. Just get smart about how you handle them. They are worth it.
