Tips To Overcome Frustration


The dictionary meaning of frustration is “feeling of dissatisfaction”; this is generally accompanied by anxiety or depression. Normally frustration is the result of unfulfilled needs or problems.  Frustration in another verbatim is the urge to complete a particular task and anxiety of not completing it at a particular time. The very word itself is frustrating and on the other hand to write something about it is a bit tedious; because even I “faced” this frustration. I have coined the word “faced” because hiding or escaping from it will not make any better but it worsens the situation. So let me suggest some tips which I followed to overcome frustration.

Tips to overcome frustration are:

Facing the reality: For example, let us suppose a student has his exams approaching and he do not prepares for it. What happens if he escapes from studying even during the exams time? He just fails!!! But if he faces the situation boldly and convinces himself that “I should sit right now and study.” Then it either happens that he performs very well than he expected or he might get at least pass marks without failing. One of the tips to overcome frustration is face the reality. In whatever situation the person might be and whatever might be his frustration he/she has to face the reality. Only then a person overcomes frustration.

Divert your thoughts: Frustration most of the time leads to depression and anxiety and unnecessary anger on someone or something. The person’s mind roles round in interlinked thoughts and he becomes very dull and shows disinterest in everything. In that case, focusing your thoughts on something else might make some difference which gives another tip to overcome frustration; because during that time your mind is preoccupied into that thing or work. It can be something like listening to music, or doing some other unattended work.

Talk to your confidant or spouse: Sometimes your frustration levels reach so high that you cannot manage however you try. In that case talking to your confidant or spouse can be better. Because you are venting out your fears or anger or anxiety; in other words you are venting out your frustration. This tip to overcome frustration is helpful for everyone but it helps best for people who are very sensitive.

Meditate: Most doctors are suggesting meditation as a remedy for all illnesses physical and mental. Take a long breathe and tell your mind “be cool! Everything will be fine.” Meditation is another tip to overcome frustration.

List out your work: Some times we are frustrated because, we do not complete a given work at the given time. In that case listing out all the possibilities of completing the work can make things better. Put in paper the things which you want to do and the things left done and undone. Putting on paper gives you a clear idea of everything which you want to do. This helps you to eliminate things which are already done and gives you a planning of those undone things. So here goes another tip to overcome frustration.

Go out for a change: Put on a neat dress of yours and go for a surprised visit to your friend’s house or any of your relatives. If that is not working as a tip to overcome frustration, go for a movie or read a comic book or else go to a restaurant and eat some nice food stuff or else cook some nice meal yourself.

Do not be disappointed: One of the tips to overcome frustration is not being disappointed. Frustration leads into disappointment. Then you start blaming either yourself or others. Do not do either. Just take it as it comes. Try to find out ways to be happy. Try to think the positive side of you or the situation. Well that does not mean that if you are sacked from a company and not finding a job you should sit happily and think that “thank god my job is lost”. You should never loose smile on your face and think that “ I have got sometime to upgrade my skills and qualification using which I will definitely be taken into some other company.”

 

Compare it with other situations which you have already faced and were successful in it:

Sometimes we tend to forget past incidents and how successful we were facing it. When you are frustrated about a particular incident, think about those hard jobs or situations which you faced successfully. This makes you think and act to the present situation in a better way. Always think that this situation too will pass. This adds to another of the tips to overcome frustration.

Gist: To be more precise one has to find ways to be happy. Frustration leads to worsening your life and the present situation which you are into. Most of the tips to overcome frustration will be helpful in surmounting it and lead you to be more organized and happy. Every problem has a solution to it. In fact frustration is a magnified view of the problem; mostly like a lens. When you see it from one end it is very big; but try to give a glance from other end also. It might be very small just the size of an ant.
