There are many reasons to develop personality apart from work, because life at work is not the only goals man crave to achieve, there are others like: marriage, wealth, parenting, happiness, education, peace and many others. The first requirement is to focus on your goal. What is your motive? Is your personal development at work motive geared towards attaining a particular position at work? What ever it is, if you wish to attain your goals, then follow these steps.

 

·                    Evaluate your traits. Do you have the required habit or character that will earn you this goal? You must realize that great things attract great responsibilities, and promotion means more money, and more money more problem. Can you withstand the challenges when it comes, what about at work are your legs big enough to occupy the shoes you are intending to wear? These are some of the question that you must answer before making a move. If in your present place of work, you are use to putting in 6 hours of job daily, and your new intended position requires 12 hours of job daily, can you take it? Are you responsible? Do you have traits that will earn you the job? Personality trait like: hard work, zeal, confidence, seriousness, promptness etc. These are the traits that endear people to you, make you a cynosure of all eyes, and get you notice by the managements or your boss for a possible promotion.

 

·                    Next is to conduct self appraisal. This means, evaluating your strength, and weaknesses. What possible condition could hinder your quest, and which one can be a plus to it? The idea is to perform s.w.o.t (strength, weakness, opportunity, and time) analysis. Once you have identified your weakness, use your strength to overcome the weaknesses. This takes a lot of planning and if it is executed efficiently you would have obtained the power tool that will lead you to achieving your aim.

 

·                    Evaluate the job to find out the responsibilities: will it require additional degree, or require going back to school to achieve a degree? What ever it is identify it and plan how you will achieve it. If it is to go back to school, it will require consulting the management to get an approval. However, some cases may not need strident move, it could be to just attend some job seminars, acquire extra skills etc.

 

·                    Personal will: After taking the necessary step listed here, make that move! Some people achieve much in their dreams and papers, than reality. Their dreams and aspiration looks good on paper, executed in dreams, and eventually hung under the sun. Make up your mind to be different, develop a personal development at work plan, and dare to take action, do not be a friend to procrastination.

 

Personal development at work is very possible. It is a very good motive, and to become what you actually desire leans heavily on taking action.
