Places You Need To Visit
Lots of people are looking for new and exciting holiday destinations. I must say that I have often wondered what the places you need to visit in a lifetime are, so that’s why I have compiled a short list, of some of the sights I would like to see. This list mostly is comprised of natural wonders, but it also contains some man made places that can take your breath away. I hope they will prove helpful when it comes to planning your next holiday. So without further a due here are, what I think, the places you need to visit:
1. The Grand Canyon. This is a place that is imbedded in the American culture. It isn’t the widest or the deepest canyon in the world, but it is definitely one of the most spectacular due to its breath taking colors and intricate shapes. I believe this is without a doubt one of the places you need to visit.
2. The Potala. This is the Dalai Lama’s palace in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa. It is a spectacular site, because you feel that the building actually is part of the mountain. It’s impressive size, and the need for representation which it obtains thru the intricate architectural details makes it one of the places you need to visit. Of course, getting there is no simple task, because Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world, being situated at an altitude of 3500 meters.
3. Easter Island. This is one of the most interesting places you need to visit. This is because of the famous Eastern Island statues. These man-made statues are massive, and incredibly intricate, and their size made many scientists wonder how could such monuments be created and transported for long distances. These statues, numbering 887, were anywhere between 10 to 21 meters, and 86 to 210 tons. They are considered a remarkable physical and creative feat.
4. Lechguilla Cave in New Mexico. It is one of the most spectacular sites in the world. This cave is considered to be part of the solutional cave family. These are the most common types of cave and they occur because off natural acid in groundwater that seeps through joints and faults. These solutional caves can only appear in soluble rock such as limestone, and also marble, chalk, dolomite, salt, etc. Lechguilla has some incredible crystal like stalactites and stalagmites, which are simply breath-taking. The way they are formed ensures that you can never see anything like this anywhere else in the world, partly because of its pristine condition.
5. The Kruger National Park. This is one of the biggest and best known national parks in the world. It is located in South Africa and it is definitely the place to go for a safari expedition. I think this park offers the best way to experience African wildlife, and therefore I think this is without a doubt one of the places you need to visit.
6. The Great Barrier Reef Of Australia. One of the most spectacular natural sites in the world. The barrier reef is made out of corral colonies that build up in immense quantities. The variety of marine life is spectacular due to the abundance of food in this region. The colors you will see there are bewildering, and for me this is one of the first places you need to visit in a lifetime. Snorkeling among the almost 1500 different kinds of species of fish will be something you will never be able to forget.
7. Machu Picchu. This is a 15th century Inca site. It is an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983, and it is probably an icon for most people when it comes to Inca culture. The site, situated on a mountain ridge, 2430 high was built in 1450, at the height of the Inca Empire, and was abandoned 100 years later, probably because of the arrival of smallpox along with the Spanish conquistadors. It is a very well preserved archeological site, and nowadays a popular tourist destination. I recommend it as one of the places you need to visit.
So, this was my short list of places you need to visit before you die. Many other great places haven’t made the list, but after all it’s a matter of personal taste. So if the places I recommended aren’t for you than you can always find others that best suit you. The places I have recommended are more for the adventurer type, who wants to be active, and feel the full experience of local customs and traditions. So I hope that some of the places I have talked about might have sparked some interest, because for me they are something spectacular. So, enjoy your trip, and have an excellent holiday!
