Punishment by death or capital punishment is and has always been a very controversial issue. It is a source of vigorous argumentative past time among elites, students and professionals. The pros and cons of capital punishment is based on the arguments from both sides. One side argues that it is right to pay directly or indirectly death for death for crimes that leads to a loss of soul. This theory is extracted from the biblical laws of Moses. So in-retrospect, death sentence may not be so bad if humans have a pure incorruptible method of passing the right judgments. The Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment

PROS

1.         Separation advantage: When a criminal is caught he is separated from the general public thereby creating safety and security for life.

2.         Safety: basically a criminal who receives capital judgment is usually very violent. So placing someone in a death row entails separating from other prison inmates and the public leading to safety and security of lives

3.         Enhances redemption: Where capital judgment exist for crimes, it is believe that it creates a kind of fear thereby deterring a person from committing and even considering perpetrating crimes that is punishable by death, for people who are already involve in such crimes, the thought of been caught one day and dieing may lead to their redemption

4.        The right punishment: This is one of the major pros and cons of capital punishment judgment. On the surface, to take the life of a criminal found guilty of killing another is a right punishment, but realistically the possibility that human factor may have influenced the judgment is a possibility

5.         Sense of vengeance: Killing for horrific crimes feeds human desire for vengeance

CONS

1.         Very expensive: The act of appealing and re-appealing after capital judgment can be very expensive; it costs the state a huge amount of money to execute.

2.         Inhumane: Face it, killing another soul is inhumane, maybe worst than the actual criminal action because it is deliberate, calculated and executed by people who are suppose to be better than the killer. No matter the reason for killing as long as someone dies in the hands of another, it is outright inhumane – two wrongs can never make a right.

3.         It violates human right: Humans have a right to life and anyone who takes another’s life for any reason is it for: punishment, wickedness, justice etc, breaks human right.

4.         Wrong judgment: Some people who are killed may later be proven to be innocent.

5.         Vengeance is mine: God who created man changed the law to equity, and forgiveness. Under this law therefore, life in prison suffice and killing outside the order of God is tantamount to playing God.

6.         Possibility of salvation: Humans can change; a killer can later change for the better and who knows he or she in the future might have the answer to one of the world problem. Everyone deserves a second chance; no one is perfect, not even the presiding judge.
