Key Responsibilities Of Employees
The demand for good people who know the responsibilities of employees and can follow them is quite high. Organizations require such people to put in their best and obtain their best in terms of salary, benefits of work environment, global challenges etc.
Here are a few key responsibilities of employees discussed.
Strive to give their best
Employees should understand that they are being paid the best to give the best. An organization spends a huge amount of its earning in hiring and training people so that they are groomed well enough to handle the work and deliver results. Not giving your 100% knowingly amounts to disobedience and if proven, you can be ousted from the organization. If you encounter problems while delivering results then speak to your senior or even colleagues to check out for other possible options.
Follow company rules and policies
Picture this: you go to your client’s office to crack a deal. And there you are politely asked not to ‘snoop around’. Will you get the deal? Whose harm it is anyway? One of the many responsibilities of employees is to follow the rules and regulations of the organization that you are working for. Some rules are written and some are unspoken code of conduct. Written rules are safer to follow as you have clear guidelines and do’s and don’ts regarding them. But there are certain unspoken rules which if not followed can lead to utter embarrassment of the employees or sometimes the organization itself.
Furnish proper and correct details
Each year many jobs get their candidature rejected simply because they are unable to furnish proper documents or else the documents are forged. This is the first step towards your job and here many falter. Employees, very often are found to give false references, documents and even educational and work certificates. This is equivalent to cheating and forgery which is punishable by law. Also if you have a criminal case pending against you or have a police complaint against you, do not hesitate to mention as long as you are innocent or have been wrongly framed. Do not misrepresent your designation or job responsibilities, service record or even your salary in order to get a better one. Please remember that hiding these details is of no use as thorough reference check will reveal each and every detail.
Should not cheat the company for personal gains
With the increase in corruption all round the world, the tendency to cheat other people has increased a lot. This is found mainly in the professional field. Thus, this responsibility for employees is considered to be very important. One should understand that you should not and will not use your designation and authority to cheat the company for your personal gains. Each and every employee should realize that in case they are not caught, the organization will be sued for a hefty sum and this will not only damage the goodwill of the company but also tarnish the image to an extent beyond repair. Also, if you are caught then you will never be able to work in the same industry anywhere in that country.
Will not harm the company’s name in any way
Last but definitely not the least responsibility of employees is the fact that you will not harm the reputation and goodwill of the company, knowingly or otherwise. Owing to the mushrooming of social networking sites like Orkut, Facebook, Twitter etc, the employees are often found in such sites discussing their work, work pressures, boss’s antics, gossips and even scandals. This discussion may seem just a casual remark to them but is not viewed lightly by the organization. This way of discussing company strategies and grapevine bits is very clearly viewed as badmouthing the organization. Also, revealing the company’s information before the time is also viewed negatively by many organizations. If found guilty, you can get yourself a ‘pink slip’ or in other words, get terminated.
Thus, before joining an organization, everybody must be given a handbook containing the key responsibilities of employees with the rules and regulations clearly mentioned. Also during training or induction, these responsibilities need to be reiterated so that an employee understands the idea and consequences of non conformation of the rules.
