Self Motivation: Tips and Techniques


Do you feel low and dejected most of the times? Do you find yourself postponing the important tasks till the end of the day or for days together? Are you most of the times pondering that if you’d taken right choices in your life your life would have been better?

 

If the answer to at least two of the above is ‘yes’ then you surely lack self-motivation.

 

Self-motivation gets you going in life. It is what maintains your interest in the activities of life and encourages you to face the obstacles in your stride. A self motivated person would believe in himself and make the most of life. But at certain critical times, when gloom and despondency overtake you, the thought process goes awry and you find yourself constantly going down. At such times the below stated tips and techniques for self motivation might come handy to you and restore your lost interest in life.

 

·        Self Motivation – Tip number 1: Change the way you think about yourself.

The biggest reason why one gets de-motivated is that one loses the confidence in his/her abilities. At such times, all things look captious and one develops a derisive and scoffing attitude towards most things concerned with life. In short, the perception towards things leans more towards negativities and denial. Changing this thought process would be the first step towards self-motivation. Look at yourself, the circumstances and the things around you with a positive attitude. This is one technique which will unfailingly impel you towards self-motivation.  

·        Self Motivation – Tip number 2:  Change some of your everyday habits.

Self-Motivation is definitely an arduous task. To get yourself out of the depressed and dismal state you will have to be ready to work hard and enchase the desolate state till you get cheerful and joyful again. To achieve this, try to get off all the guilt and negative emotions that hold you back. Start working toward the betterment of your life. Make your-self the most important person and take decisions aiming for your happiness and your betterment alone. This is so because only when you are happy you will be in a position to make happy too.

·        Self Motivation – Tip number 3:  Guard your thought process closely. The way we think and what we think everyday impacts the way we feel.

Ultimately it is solely our thoughts those shape up our lives. Pay heed to your thinking process and thoughts.  Turn the negative thinking into positive as soon as you are aware of it. Affirmations help tremendously. Keep reminding yourself about your positivity and your capabilities. This propels your psyche in the forward direction. Another way which helps achieve self-motivation is reading the biographies of some well known personalities. You will be stunned to know that almost whoever achieved stupendous success faced a whirl of hardships. This fact might stimulate and inspire anyone and permeate enough drive to fight back and succeed whatever the circumstances.

·        Self Motivation – Tip number 4:  Repair and replace the inner dialogue.

By persistently reminding yourself of your abilities you will be repairing your inner dialogue to quite an extent. Still replacing it with encouragement is necessary to fight de-motivation. To achieve this try to be in company of motivated people. Spend time with Kids. Try to show your care and love freely. Try to get away from the habit of criticizing people. All these actions if implemented will institute the drive and self-motivation in you.

·        Self Motivation – Tip number 5: Be true to yourself. Act now.

Start now, just start doing the things you know will make your life worthy. Try to give yourself reasons to live, try to earn your luxuries by working hard for the day. Complete a task you’ve undertaken whatever the cost, in terms of difficulties. Make short term goals. Compartmentalize your day into 4 compartments of 4 hrs each. Try to achieve at least one activity in it. Stop yourself from daydreaming. Accept the present. Live it. Find out what will relieve you of procrastination. Prioritize it in your schedule. Make the schedule again if you fail at it. Do the activities which relieve you of stress. Learn some new thing, some foreign language, some form of art or some instrument to play. Groom yourself .Watch lots of comedy movies. Laugh on the smallest reason you get to laugh on. Know that we all have 24 hrs, look at how some people manage to make the most of those 24 hrs and live life to its fullest. The realization of this fact might detour you from wasting time or misusing it.

Once you have motivated yourself even to a little extent, it is so inspiring that it then gains momentum by itself. Just tell yourself that you have to crush and subdue the monstrous weakness of lack of self motivation and see how you get self-motivated to defeat it to the core.

    Thanks for the post!!!
    There is nothing new, but thats what all of us need when we go despondent.
    I am feeling the momentum only by reading it. This post reminded me of the old days when these were the very traits which kept me moving, which I (don't know when) lost in the negative times.
    But because of you, things might be rolling again.
