Should I Go To College

Should I go to college? It is one of the very common questions that comes in the mind of every 17 to 18 year old students who are currently in their senior year of high school. After the effect of economic recession those who do not have a college degree realized the importance of college education. Without a college degree your opportunities of an advanced career will be very limited. The motivation behind the college education varies from person to person but the benefit of college degree is same for everyone.

The socioeconomic condition of a student plays an important role on deciding whether to get a college degree or not. A student who is from wealthy family the decision making is much easier than a student from an economically insolvent family. No matter what, in spite of your family’s economic background remember one thing- where there is a wish there is a way. So if you want to pursue higher education there are many available options for you to pay your college fees such as Federal Loans, scholarships offered from the colleges, student loans etc. The point that I am trying to make is your economic condition should be a factor while making decision but certainly not the prime factor for taking this life time decision.

It is true all sort of occupations do not require a college degree but having a college degree always keep your options open. So while deciding whether to attend a college or not your should consider all of these aspects. For example, initially you have to pay a big amount for your college degree but I think that is worth paying as it will enhance your chances of earning handsome money in future. A survey showed that people with a college degree earn at least twenty-five percent more than those who do not have a college degree. So even if you take loans to pay for your college education you will be able to repay that loan within a very short time after completing your degree.

Let me bring out the example of current recession which will help you to answer the question- “Should I go to college or not?”During the recent recession many people lost their jobs and finding a new job was very difficult and especially for those who do not have a college degree. Getting a job becomes real challenge for them. Even in the after recession period, job market is still not very convenient for them. A high school graduation degree is not enough in this highly competitive world. A college degree will prepare you and will backup you in any kind of unwanted situation like economic recession.

Often students have to compromise their college education and have to get into a full job to start immediate earning. So as the answer of the titled question “should I go to college?”- They have to choose the answer no. But the scenario of higher education is changing day by day and new options are being available for the students. Nowadays, there are many options for pursuing higher education. Online college education is one of those. Now you can attend a college from your own place and while having a full time job. Here, students attend their e-classes by means of internet. The class schedule of online colleges is very flexible and student can choose schedule according to their convenience. Thereby the students with a full time job can also get a college degree by enrolling themselves in an online college. While choosing your online college be a bit careful and choose an authorized college.  Government is now offering Federal Loans for online college students and this means of college education is getting very popular gradually.

So far I have talked about all of those students who want to go to colleges but because of some drawbacks they have to rethink their answer to the question of- should I go to college? And the point I have tried to make is- in spite all of those constraints they should go to college as it will benefit them in long run. But there is another group of students who do not want to go to college just because of the absence of desire of the college education. Most of these students ended up going to colleges just because their parents insist them to go. If you are one of them, then I think you should really ask yourself what you want to do with your life and should take your decision accordingly.

There are many people who left the option of college education in their early stage of life but in later stage get back to college just because they realize the importance of college education. “Should I go to college?” is not a very easy question to answer but if you are a focused person, I am sure you would not find it that difficult.
