Showing Respect in the workplace is one of important trait if you are presently working. The most productive time of our lives is spent on our jobs. Our office is a kind of our second home and our co-workers becomes more like our family members. If one is not satisfied in his professional life there is no way one can enjoy the personal life too. It is so important to have a clean, soothing, and productive environment in office that it lets your capabilities perform to its best. It is important to eliminate the element of tension so that focus completely remains on the job and results. To achieve this, one factor that plays bog role is how we give respect to other people and the way we get respected in our organization. Showing respect in the workplace is more of a habit whose results are tremendous on professional front.
You need to give respect to seek respect and workplace is no different. How we behave with others in some way influence how others would behave with us. It is important that we modify our behavior first because it is the start point or catalyst to the way other would treat us. Moreover, there is internal satisfaction attached to be righteous in our action and deeds that help us live in peace without any hard feelings or grudges against anyone. Infact our behavior is only thing that make us attract other people towards us and befriends with them. Respect in the workplace plays an important role because each one of us deep inside has an unending need to be respected and recognized and when we get it from someone- we keep that person in high spirits.
Showing respect in the workplace needs a control on your thoughts and your behavior. There are many way to express yourself and give respect to others and the basic methods are
1) Through Words-Words are the best medium to show our respect. The words we use and the tone of our language has the ability to make someone feel important about themselves. Words can make and break any situation. They can sooth or cuts through the person heart in no time. Hence it is important to make wise use of the words we speak. The medium or the tones with which words are delivered are also important because they invariable convey our excitement or our rejection.
2) Through Gestures- You may seem normal or favorable through your words or tones but the facial or body gestures are important to make other person believe in the respect given by us. Our eyes, face, hands and body language is good enough to make another person judge what we really mean with our gestures. You need to be at your best and the gestures should show that you mean every bit of your communication.
3) Through Actions- Some situation demands action from your end to show how much you respect the person in front. Letting other person sit on your chair, standing up to acknowledge the visit of your superior, Letting other person go before you, holding the door and allowing other person to pass through first are many actions that convey our respect. These and many other small actions both on and off the job matter a lot to convey our deepest of feelings.
Showing respect in the workplace is all about giving due respect to the people for what they are and the work they do. The kinds of respect we give to other people determine the kind of relationship that we would share with them. Look around and you would almost everyone deserve respect by virtue of their existence and the work they do. The important ones include
Superiors- It is important to respect the position and work experience of our seniors. There is tremendous amount of knowledge that we gain from them and they are our only and the best medium available for achieving success. Not only they deserve respect but inherently deep inside they seek it too from their juniors. And when you do give the respect in the right way to right person, you have nothing to loose but everything to gain. Showing respect in the workplace infact always begins with your bosses and seniors and it has to go around with each levels of hierarchy.
Colleagues- The people who are part of our group and with whom we spent our precious hours somehow become the important members of our family. Just like the respect we give to our family, it is important to give respect to our colleagues and value their work. How you behave with them determines how healthy relationship you would share with them and how willing they would be to be part of your journey.
Juniors- It is habit of people to take their juniors lightly and often not show good behavior towards them. Most people fail to realize that they are human beings too and any respect given to them multiplies many folds when it comes back to us. It is important to respect them and their work and help them get successful. Such attitude has the ability to attract them towards you and make them willing to do anything and everything as and when the situation demands. Giving respect reciprocates in form of non questionable loyalty and willingness to work in adverse and demanding situations.

Showing respect in the workplace is all about the relationship we develop with other people and how we value them. You can rise high through ranks but you cannot get the respect till the time you give it to other people. Respect in a way is directly related to peace of mind that we personally get and help other attain through our attitude and behavior. People love to be loved and recognized and showing respect in the workplace is best way to do that.
