Starving For Perfection – Don’t Ignore The Other Side of Perfectionism
If I ever want to achieve perfectionism, I want it to be in the field of Personal and Professional Development. But it is a journey and I am enjoying every bit of it. I have my own goals and this blog is a reflection of where I am and where I want to go. Starving for Perfection is a human trait that everyone tries to achieve in one field or the other. We want to be successful, we want to be famous and only thing that can make it happen it our perfection in our respective fields. Perfection has a direct reflection on our authority which in turn relates to the success. A hunger or starvation is the best thing if we ever want to achieve anything in life. It derives a commitment and unquestionable will to achieve the impossible. But do perfection is the end of the game to be successful in life?
No one is perfect and no one would ever be. There is a degree of perfectionism which each one of us holds in our respective fields. Each day give us an experience which adds to our knowledge and helps us become wise. In effect, Perfection is a journey that needs to be lived through by reaping small or big benefits that come to us from time to time. Some experiences are bad while others are good but important point is that they are our best teacher. But just like a coin has two sides, starving for perfection has a scary side too. The intention of this post is not only to reveal the bad part of it but also makes us believe as to why it is the journey which is more important than the end result.
A person who is starving for perfection or working towards it is
1) Putting all effort to be the best in particular field
2) Wants to be the best
3) Wants to know everything that is associated with it.
And this is where the catch is
1) John wants to teach personal development but he could not because he thinks he is still not perfect.
2) Lisa wants to play piano in front of audience but she thinks she is not perfect yet
3) Mary wants to participate in dance competition but she feels her steps are not yet perfect yet.
And this happens to each one of us.
1) We feel we are not perfect yet
2) We wait for next moment when we would be perfect
3) That moment never comes.
End Result is
1) We lose the opportunity
2) We lose the learning
3) We never grow
The fear of Failure and the Hunger for Perfectionism is the Biggest Culprit
People just fail to realize that
1) It is ok if you are not perfect
2) It is not important that you have to be bang on target at the very first time
3) First attempt is not the last attempt.
3) Learning is journey. You cannot hack the route.
So what if
1) John start delivers the first lecture on personal development with whatever he knows
2) Lisa gives her first performance with whatever she knows
3) Mary competes in dance competition with whatever she knows.
By taking the first step, they would have been much better than what they are today.
1) The feedback would show up on their face
2) They would know their position wrt to their goal
3) They would be better prepared for future.
The biggest Learning in attaining the state of Perfectionism is that it is always the Work In Progress. The best any person can ever do is to
1) Take the first step
2) Keep the learning channel open
3) Give their best every time their talent is put on test.

Perfectionism is a Journey.
You have to prove to yourself and not to others. And the best way to do that is by validating it repeatedly by putting it into test.
