The Process Of Decision Making

In human life there is a time when one has to make a choice. The process of making a choice can be very daunting especially if one is faced with difficult conditions marked by scarce resources. The level you are today is based on the choices you make yesterday. Decisions making is very important and hence must be taken seriously by adopting the process of decision making. What are the processes of decision making? Why is it so important that man take time to make decisions? The truth is this wrong decisions leads to wrong conditions, while the right decision lead to the right conditions. There is hardly any human endeavor that does not adopt the concept of decision making; from minor decisions like moving from point a to b, to major decision like career choices all hinged on using some evaluation processes to arrive at a choice. Choices are made when you arrive at a decision. For example: When you ponder on two issues like whether to go to work, or sleep the day off and finally decide on the later it is called a decision and the alternative that was decided on is a matter of choice. So choices come after one makes a decision. Decision making is therefore very important considering the importance of the process of decision making.

Decision, choices and personality

You are what you decide. Your life today – good or bad is as a result of the decision you made yesterday; are you a successful doctor who enjoys his or her work and radiate joy in the process of dispatching medical duties, then you are successful and made the right decisions which obviously includes: deciding to choose to go to school instead of sitting at home, working hard instead of lazing around, studying instead of wasting away, attending classes instead of joining bad gangs or giving in to bad peer pressure. This is an example of the outcomes of a positive choice in life, on the other hand, considering the negative aspect of a prisoner for an example: the prisoner is obviously a bad condition and to show how his choices – negative choices, led to this condition, these possible line of action may have been adopted and they are: choosing between the less unpalatable alternatives, which may include: not going to school and if at all, not paying attention, joining bad gangs, playing away his or her life, getting involved in crimes, partying, and generally living an irresponsible lifestyle which probably led to getting on the wrong side of law, and eventually getting caught and next – imprisonment. These are major decision making examples; there are also minor ones like: deciding to sleep early or not, waking up early, or not, brushing the teeth or not, etc. So the process of decision making includes major choices and minor ones.

From the above analogies one can observe simple facts and it is that decision making exercise leads to a direct consequence, which can be good or bad. So been good means making the right decisions and been bad means making the wrong decision, this explains therefore why people are bad and good. Well, this might look easy but be warned that the process of decision making is not easy, if it isn’t, people will not make so many bad choices that they never wanted to make. So many people today who are in bad conditions did not get there because they set out to be bad, no, rather it was a case of other factors acting up to lead to unsavory circumstances.

Factors that influences negative decision making

In the process of decision making these factors influences negative decisions making and they are: ignorance, inexperience, selfishness, evil motive, manipulations, negative and influences and the other way round for positive decision making process.

The process of decision making

1.                  Idea: You must have a prior idea or something in mind that one which to do, for instance a professional before getting to where he or she is, had an idea to be either a doctor, lawyer, business executive etc.

2.                  Idea evaluation: After having this idea, the next step is to evaluate it, considering factors like: is it achievable, what other factors might be needed to achieve the goal, will it require large amount of capital etc.

3.                  Effect: After passing the evaluation stage next will be to consider the consequences of taking a particular decision. How will it affect you, family, love ones etc.

4.                  Test your idea: You can do this by confiding in more experienced people who have achieved what you are pondering on achieving, take their suggestions very seriously, and weigh the pros and cons of your choices.

5.                  Finally make a decision.

The process of decision making above does not necessarily mean that one may make the right choice; this is where mistakes come in. So to ensure you make the right decision consult well qualified people’s opinion and remember this biblical saying: out of the mouth of two or three witnesses a truth is established.”
