Everybody seems to be looking for a job these days. The economic crisis seems to have affected every aspect of the economy. But inevitably there are some jobs where they always seem to be openings. Here is what I have found to be the Top 10 careers in demand in the U.S. Some of the jobs that I have found while researching for this article came as a real surprise for me. I was expecting that most if not all the jobs would be in IT. As it turns out, IT jobs are just 25 per cent of the top 10 careers in demand. Still, if we look at it just through the number of vacant seats and projected growth of the market, it seems that studying IT is one of the surest ways to get a good job after finishing college. Most of the top 5 jobs are in my opinion very specialized and pretty hard to get, even though there is a high demand for them. That doesn’t mean of course that if you apply yourself you wouldn’t be able to get them but it might take considerable time and effort. So, without further ado, here are the top 10 careers in demand.

1.    Medical Science Liaison. You need to have some specialized studies in the field of medicine and marketing, but other than that it doesn’t seem that hard to get the job, which is essentially trying to sell products of pharmaceutical companies to doctors or hospital. It would help if you have finished medicine school but it is not a prerequisite. One of the best paying jobs from the top 10 careers in demand.

2.    Account Director. This job applies more specifically to internet marketing. Since the dotcom boom, there has been a shortage of people managing all the different accounts on the net, and with internet marketing becoming more profitable than print, the demand won’t seem to let up soon.

3.    General Manager at deluxe hotels. I know this seems like an impossible job to get if you are just starting out, but if you have excellent organizational skills and good leadership capabilities, you might want to consider this career option, because the pay is great.

4.    Athletic wear designer. One of the most unusual jobs in the top 10 careers in demand. The market for athletic and active wear seems to be growing rapidly in the last few years and young talent is always thought after.

5.    Construction estimator. You need in depth knowledge of construction work and a specialized college degree. Other than that the job is self explanatory. You need to evaluate and project the estimated cost of the construction.

6.    Project Manager in construction work. Same as the job mentioned above, it is quite a straight forward job, but at which you need a whole lot of patience and nerves of steel to hand the project before the deadline.

7.    SQL database administrator. SQL is the most widely used database language used in IT. So if you think you might have a knack for this I urge you to try it because it probably has the biggest number of vacant jobs in the top 10 Careers in demand.

8.    Java Developers. Same as the aforementioned job, a good Java developer will always find a job in today’s market. The only problem with every IT job is that you have to constantly be on your feet and be prepared for the next innovation. If you can’t adapt you will probably become obsolete in a few years. Other than that, it seems like a very reliable career to start.

9.    Nurse. There has been a shortage of nurses in the recent years; it is a specialized job that needs a lot of studies. At the same time, you have to deal with sick people each day, but on the upside you also get to see patience get better.

10. Financial analyst. Not the most glamorous job in the world, but a pretty safe bet for a career. Every business needs at some point a financial analyst so I believe that job safety shouldn’t be an issue. Also, if you manage to get to know the right people and are very rigorous and correct with your work, promotions aren’t that hard to get in this line of work.

From the research I have undergone and from all the available data, these are the top 10 careers in demand in the U.S. I believe that you can succeed in any domain if you are good enough, but I am also aware that being the best at what you do is not always enough. This is why I have decided to write this article, to try to give some facts for people trying to figure out what career to start.
