Traits Of Disobedience
A very long time ago, a very strong nation was faced with a formidable adversary (nation) whose soldiers where described as very strong and as many as the sand of the sea. The nation had a very powerful king but his armies where nothing compared to their enemy armies. But they served a great and mighty God who promised them victory in the impending clash but on one condition that he totally wipe-out the enemy nation leaving out nothing at all. One will expect this king to be happy but he made a mistake of manifesting traits of disobedience. He decided to go against the order by first sparing one of the enemy clan, secondly destroying only the weak leaving the strong including the king of the country, and thirdly completely spoiling the enemy nation. His God seeing that this king dared to disobey him sent his prophet to him and his punishment? He was denounced as the king, lost the leadership and protection of God and was replaced by another. (1 Samuel 15. 1 to 22). This is a typical story of the consequences of disobedience. Like every other evil disobedience is not committed in isolation, it has little brother and sisters (traits of disobedience) working with it.
The School Of Disobedience And Consequences
When you see topics like the traits of disobedience something comes to mind and it is the fact that the theme (disobedience) cannot be committed alone, it requires the contribution of other habits to be executed. So any disobedient person is actually in a school tutored by not only disobedience but other dangerous characteristics that are equally bad. For instance in the story of the Israelites and Amelekites, Saul the King of Israel who previously was highly preferred was later disgraced and disrobed for no other reason but disobedience.
The fact is that when one shuns rules and regulation, orders of a Country, parents, authority, organization, and others the person is toying with his or her destiny and when it happens the fall is usually hard and strong. In daily live disobedience is committed everyday; children against parents, people against law of the country, workers against company policies, humans against the law of nature (destroying the environment) and so on, and the result, a total adverse change of destiny. Example: increase in natural disasters like Tsunami, erosion, desertification, green house effects etc, are few examples of what happens to man for polluting the environment; disobedience that resulted to death of millions of people. Take another example; disobedience to company policies can result to dismissal, blacklisting, and sometimes demotion. The list is endless, all going to confirm the law of cause and effect. While still on the issue of consequences of traits of disobedience, wrong diets, unhealthy lifestyle leading to sickness, diseases and death is another major example of disobedience. The list is indeed endless; humans going against the order of nature, spiritual ethics and physical ethics are the reason for the problems humankind is battling with. The good news is, you can overcome it and the first step is to identify the traits of disobedience.
Traits Of Disobedience
Using the Israel versus Amalekites story featuring the habit of the King – Saul as a case study, the traits of disobedience are:
1. Stubbornness: It takes an obstinate person to reject rules and ethics like King Saul, he had everything going for him, but he just had to destroy it by disregarding commandment to do his own thing.
2. Greed: Selfishness and greed goes hand in hand. The desire to execute ones desire, achieve selfish goals makes people to become disobedient. Like the case of Saul his greed made him cart away his enemy’s valuables even though he was previously told not to.
3. Artful: King Saul wanted to deceive God. According to him he disobeyed God because he wanted to please him, how? Capture the best out of Amelikites to sacrifice to him, serve him, and use the loot to decorate God’s alter, what he got, God instructed Samuel the prophet to inform him that “obedience is better than sacrifice”.
4. Ignorance: Disobedient people do what they do because they are ignorant of the possible repercussion their habit invites, If Saul knew what awaits him he probably would never have done what he did. Same goes for other people, if you knew that one night of pleasure without protection could serve you a death warrant, you would have practiced safe sex.
5. Rebellion
6. lies
7. carelessness
These are the traits of disobedience, what does this mean to you? Caution, there is hardly anything on earth good or bad that does not have a consequence. Have you been warned by your doctors to quit smoking, obey him, driving while drinking is an outright flaunt of orders, having sex without protection opens the door of deadly terminal infections like aids, unwanted pregnancy, etc. So help yourself, be obedient to spiritual, physical and natural rules, ethics and policies they are made for you and not against you.
