What Is A Vision Statement
The purpose of this article is not only to define vision statement but also go behind its meaning to show it relevance to your lives. Vision statement with it carries a lot of meaning that have the potential to put both organizations and people ahead in their respective ventures. Yes, A vision statement is not only the one that corporate need to define for themselves but it is something that you can define for yourself too. Vision statement is the first step we need before we set ourselves to hit our goals. Only problem is that it if often ignored by most of us and many of us even fail to see its relevance in our lives.
Vision statements are there to define the future. They are there to maximize, channelize, and focus the energy. With eye on goals it makes sure to inspire everyone to give their best for a wonderful future. Vision statements are loaded with meaning and have the ability to put whole environment into motion. So let’s dug deeper to see what vision statement is and how you can have one of your own for yourself and for your organization too.
A vision statement essentially is a tool
1) To define present with an eye on future
2) To evoke emotions and give life to our efforts and goals
3) To inspire and relate the hearts and minds that associate our goals and action
A vision statement should say
1) Something about who we are
2) What we want to achieve
3) And such success can lead to a better future for all involved individuals and parties.
It is not a statement that
1) Define your target
2) Goals that need to be achieved in numbers
3) A plain statement that lets you know what you need to do.
So, to take an example, A good vision statement for a restaurant can be
1) A place where people come to relax and ease out their minds
2) A place where they get good quality hygienic food
3) A place where they can have good time away from home
It is around this vision statement that company actions can then be molded to achieve higher efficiency. This vision statement
1) Evoke emotions
2) Inspire actions
3) Make people committed to their goals.
So a visions statement for a
1) Healthcare software company can be the one that relate to more saving the lives of people then selling goals
2) A hotel can be related to perfect stay away from home than concerning more about their expansion and coverage
3) A gym can be more related to improving the physical fitness than concerning the equipment or latest technology
One should realize that
1) They need to keep an eye on ultimate goal
2) The target, figures and numbers are by product of it
3) The more closer they reach to their goals, the more successful you become
So if my Gym does helps people to improve their physical fitness then the success would come naturally to it.
On top of it such vision statement makes the employee more related to goals and they emotionally engage them. Such statements are good way to inspire them and make an action a part of their personal Goals.
So a trainer in a Gym would not be concerned about anything but improving the physical fitness of his clients which is his personal goal too. In doing this he helps the Gym to earn a name for itself and get good business.
The thing which should be kept in mind while writing the mission statement is that it should be eternal and away from commercial or individual gains. It should be the means to an end rather than an eye on the end itself. You need to define your existence to being. Many people and organizations believe that a vision statement is a way to define the numbers and then make people commit to it. They fail holistically.
