What Is Happiness And Why Do You Need Your Own Definition Of Happiness
Several words can define happiness. These include contentment, pleasure, gladness, cheerfulness, joy, glee, bliss, delight and ecstasy. You may choose which ever word that best suits your state of mind when it comes to describing your happiness. You may own all the dictionaries of the world that you possibly can, but the best definition of happiness, is, perhaps, ‘something that makes you happy’. Let’s start with what is happiness?
Happiness is the most important aspect of life as it enables people to look forward to something good which can pep up their otherwise dull and dreary routine. Happiness is the sweetest feeling that could ever happen to mankind. Some find happiness in riches, others in spiritual pursuits, for still others happiness could mean chatting away in the company of a good friend or just spending some quiet time alone.
There may be still others, who may find happiness in giving their all to the needy and less fortunate. Children find happiness in the company of their parents and vice versa. Grandchildren bring much happiness to grandparents. There are people in this world who find happiness raising pets and flowers, while happiness to a food lover could mean a big juicy burger, a friend’s treat of course!
Happiness, for a trendy woman, could mean possessing the latest fashions in garments and jewelry, while for a frugal person it could mean saving up by cutting down on useless expenditure wherever it is possible. For a student it could mean scoring good grades, while for an unemployed person, happiness could mean getting a good job, with a good position and fat pay packet.
Young people often find their happiness in clothes and things that are in fashion and mo-bikes that can break sound barriers at full speed. A doctor’s happiness could be the return of that long lost smile on his patient’s lips. Little girls often find happiness in dolls and pretty things, while boys of all ages love to fly kites. A baby’s biggest joy is sitting in the secure and comfortable lap of his mother.
Let’s discuss why you need your own definition of happiness.
There are myriad ways to explain happiness, but only one way to feel it-straight from the heart. And perhaps this is the only reason why one needs to have one’s own definition of happiness. We often come across people, particularly on TV, who find happiness in crazy stunts and antics.
Hence, it is evident that every human being in this world has his own definition of happiness. And not only human beings, but animals too have their own definition of happiness. People, who own pets or are involved in wildlife conservation, can testify to this fact. So we see that having one’s own definition of happiness is a very healthy sign of our existence.
Now the question is how one can identify one’s own definition of happiness. The answer to this question is simple. First identify what makes you happy, and viola, you have got your own definition of happiness. A poet’s definition of happiness could be finding the perfect rhyme for his verse. For a rookie it could mean scoring a home run. Happiness for an actor could mean perfecting a tough scene in the very first take of the shooting.
For an inventor it could mean conjuring up a flawless thing that could change people’s way of living and immortalize his name. All that you need to do is find out what makes you happy. Cars and flashy motor vehicles bring joy to some. Are you one of those? Some are crazy about movies. Is that your way of finding happiness too? Vintage goodies make most people smile. Is that the case with you too? Perhaps you are one of those, who find happiness in exploring new destinations.
If it is so, you could define this as your way of finding happiness and share your experiences with those who are quite like you. This would bring you added joy. An accomplished housewife often finds happiness in catering to the needs of her family. Happiness to a well-known chef could mean appreciation of his culinary skills by his patrons.
Once you have identified what makes you happy, all that you have to do us pursue that activity that adds bliss to your life. Happiness is all in your state of mind. If you think you are happy, you are. If not, go find what makes you happy and all your blues would be wiped out in no time.
