What Is My Perfect Job
Most students coming out of the colleges dream of getting a job which increases their self worth and promises them a lot. Being naïve about the job market or the way the corporate sector works can be sometimes detrimental to your career. The result is; you could be trapped in the wrong kind of a job. What is my perfect job? This question is not as difficult as it seems. Here are a few characteristics that should be present or you should be able to find them in a perfect job.
· Works on your values: Before joining any organization, ask yourself what is my perfect job? The values prevalent in the organization should not clash with your personal values. Such a situation would make you constantly battle your conscience at every step. You cannot work in such a place for a very long time since your moral values get compromised regularly.
· Work satisfaction: Your perfect job should offer you the satisfaction of doing the job. In other words, it should utilize your skills and your knowledge gained so far to the best of your abilities. You should feel that you are doing a job wherein, not only your knowledge is valued but more knowledge is imparted to you in terms of training to help you perform your job better.
· Career progression: The answer to what is my perfect job lies in the fact that a good job would offer you progression in your career. You might have joined as a trainee but a good employer should be able to tell you that where would you reach in terms of designation, compensation and expertise when you have completed certain number of years in the industry. A job which makes you work without a hike in your designation or salary is not worth it.
· Intellectual growth: There is a lot of difference in the thought process of a trainee and that of a manager. So, how and why is there a difference in the intellectual capabilities? Has it occurred overnight? What is my perfect job? The quest for an answer will bring you to understand that a good job will provide you with ample opportunities to enhance your skill sets and bring out your strengths. It will help you downplay your negatives. This can be done through training. Not every job offers you with such chances.
· Good environment: By the term “good environment”, we do not mean green grass and flowers. The term signifies the presence of all those reasons which make our job interesting and easy to perform such as managerial support, access to relevant information, healthy relationship among co-workers, maintenance of team spirit and many more.
· Challenging opportunities: Your job should not be the routine job where there is nothing new to learn. Rather, it should offer you challenges at every step of your career so that you learn something and overcome it. This could be one of the answers to your question as to what is my perfect job. A challenging job will make you strive harder to prove yourself and give rise to healthy competition. If taken in a positive manner, competition can become the measure of worth in employees.
· Good compensation: It is imperative to say that we all work for money. Well, if you don’t then you would probably a social worker, but even they need some amount of money to sustain them. Your perfect job or rather a good job too would not exploit you in terms of compensation. Every year the compensation packages for a particular designation with certain skill sets are decided by the authorities. This is based on the average of the minimum and maximum amount being given by different companies. Your salary should lie in that range. If it is less then it is the time to either talk to your boss or get a better paying job.
Many people ask “what is my perfect job” but due to some reason or the other, they are not able to secure one. The trick is to analyze well before applying and asking a lot of questions about the working practices both to the interviewer as well as other employees, if possible. Check for the rate of attrition in the organization. It reveals more than anybody is willing to say.
