Due to recent cases of drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, premature sex, sodomy etc in America, the perception of common people around the world has become negative with regards to family values and tradition. People often have a question in their mind what is society. A handful of famous people indulging in their own idiosyncrasies have brought a lot of disrepute to the country in terms of culture. Countries in the east associate America with loose morality and loss of tradition and values. But the fact is that a few prominent people do not make a society. America still houses the age old traditions and values and is just as conservative as any other country.

Here are a few instances which will completely demolish the myths mentioned above and reinstate the belief that even today; there is a society which exists in America which keeps its values, beliefs and tradition intact.
During the very recent Haiti earthquake, thousands of people, especially American have contributed millions of dollars for the needy people. The world stands witness as to how the American people have felt the needs of the people of Haiti and have helped the NGOs in building schools and shelters for those unfortunate people. Apart from other donations, member of an online game have contributed many millions. Where in the world would people from a nation contribute their real money in order to play games and also help out people? This is what society is. This is not the only case. Americans have helped when the world was coping up from the reeling blow of a tsunami or earthquake elsewhere.
The Americans believe in one thing – spreading happiness and laughter. It is a country full of people who as individuals have varied experiences but still believe in picking up the positives and moving on. Quoting Albert Einstein that "the value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving"; this is the total sum feeling in every common American. We should all incorporate this wonderful and amazing trait which is not to focus too much on the negative aspect of something, be positive and learn from your experience before moving on.
The American Tradition
Tradition consists of three things namely the content as in the customs, laws etc, the caretaker who passes on of the traditions and the receiver who receives the traditions and ensures that it is being followed. Every caretaker is a receiver and vice versa depending on the situation. Institutions like the church or our grandparents are the caretakers and we are the receivers. More than half of the American population believes in the traditions and are still together with their entire family during Thanksgiving or Christmas or Easter.
So, the next time when someone asks you what is society in America and starts with the negatives, remember Albert Einstein and ask them to focus on the positives. Every country, every society has few positives and few negatives. The key is to focus on the positives and try to slowly negate the negatives.
