What Is The Purpose Of Life

The Question to answer your life purpose becomes difficult as you dwell more into it. I have not taken this question seriously until recently when I thought it to be an important question to answer from Personal Development point of view. It is not an easy task and I have spent some quiet moments to answer this honestly for myself. It indeed involved lot of drilling on my end and answering some tough questions which somehow was ignored till now. Yes, it was not an easy one and I hope this post would take you through my journey to discover the purpose driven life.

Initially I was clueless if I was on the right track. So I started by reading some articles on web to get a perspective on how other people have solved this mystery for themselves.  But before I talk more about it lets hear an interesting story.

What Is The Purpose Of Life

There was once a person

1)     He was very poor.

2)     He realized how everything in life is dependent on money so he worked hard to get rich.

3)     Soon he was rich and he had enough money to last a lifetime. Soon he got bored and thought to do something different in life.

4)     He thought to have some purpose in life to live a life of peace. The purpose of life was clear and something that relates to him somehow- To help the Poor.

5)     Sensing that, immediately next day he went out and started distributed money, clothes etc. to poor people around him.

6)     He was happy for some days and then thought to check how much difference his effort has yielded.

7)     What he saw was there was no change in position or status of the people. Money he had distributed was either spent on food or to enjoy other comforts of life.

8)     He soon realized that he cannot improve the life of other people till the time they themselves are committed to improve their own life.

9)     So he got the lesson. He could improve life of only those people who are committed to improve theirs own. Hence he started by funding entrepreneurs to start their own business. They in turn created more employment.

Now lets talk about why I narrated this story and how it relates to mine. While reading through web I found two type of people

1)     The first are those who have plenty of money in their life and now they can think of what they want to do in rest of life.

2)     Those who know nothing about life and are making plain and simple guesses.

My take is different.

If I look around I see

1)     My family

2)     My Needs

3)     And How I have to satisfy those needs

Call it a rat race

1)     Initial years of my life was invested to study and become something

2)     Now I am on a growth path of my life

3)     Like others I want more money to get all amenities in life

So, when I thought of various life purposes I could have in my life, I thought of something as

1)     To take Personal Development as my subject and help people relate to themselves.

2)     To take social causes which I like

3)     To roam around the world and experience and discover the creation of God.

Wishes were many and soon they started to associate with the purpose I could have in my life.

But the Reality Check was soon kicked in

1)     Almost for everything I wanted to do I had to leave my job (only source of income)

2)     For most of things, I need to somehow leave things which I love today (yes in some cases it does involved leaving my job)

3)     Lastly, Money

Yes, money

1)     Money is the biggest factor to do what you love to do in life

2)     People who do fancy stuff are those who have filled their basic need to money

3)     People who don’t have enough money can never be satisfied with their purpose till the time they have satisfied or experienced the joy of enough money in their account.

You can think of me as materialistic purpose by talking only of money. But truth is

1)     Till you don’t have money you cannot do what you want in life (can you shun your responsibilities?)

2)     Once you have plenty of money you need put a fullstop somewhere and decide -what next you want to do.

3)     Doing what you want to do in life without having seen enough of money would never satisfy you or would make you complete ever.

Yes, Money is important and that’s why it exists.

So, My conclusion on Purpose of my life was simple

1)     Be happy and enjoy what I have in life

2)     Be best in whatever work I do and grow intellectually

3)     The day I satisfy my basic need of money, do what I wanted to do in life.

I am not sure if that day (point 3) would ever come but

1)     I would keep the channel of my job open to let money flow

2)     I would continue do things which make me happy

3)     Later in life, when I would have enough money to support myself, I would pursue things fulltime which brings me happiness.

In essence,  I want to be happy in life. At this moment I find happiness inwards by building myself and my family. Later in life when I would have enough of money, I would find happiness outwards by progressing in my life further and helping other people.

You might be wondering how it relates to story I narrated above. Well, at present I am in stage 2 of above story.

And I conclude by saying that the purpose of my is relative and it depends on each individual day and how it turns up for me. So I want to be happy today and prepare for things which would make me and my family happy tomorrow.

One Response to “What Is The Purpose Of Life”

  1. Exactly what I decided about my life.
    First make money.
Then spend it on what I want to.
Because if you don't make money, you can't do what you want to.
