What To Wear For An Interview

Interviews become quite often after a certain age. Starting from interview with teachers, to interviews with potential employers to media or potential in-laws, we are facing interviews a lot in our lives. Yet, every time an important event comes up like a formal interview, we do not know what to wear for an interview. Interview attires are crucial denominators for the following consequence as our confidence and personality are strongly affected by these attires. An outfit that is bold and matches your personality makes you confident. On the other hand, an outfit that is clumsy or loud leaves your confidence shaky. These are the reasons why interviews attires are as important as interviews and in some cases this preceding decision is even more important that the event itself.

Males and females both are out in the busy world today. It is only normal to come across various interviews weekly. In order to get rid of the monotony, you would probably want to adorn yourself with different attire on different days. But there are some ground rules that you should not forget, in fact strictly follow. For both men and women, these rules are given below. Do try to make your own adjustments:

For men: Let’s start with the shirt that you would be wearing. It will come as quite a surprise to you to know how many corporate houses make it a must to wear only light colored fabrics. Try to avoid deep colors like black, chocolate, maroon and graphite. Although these colors are the first ones that come in your hand when you open the wardrobe, try to put up these friends for stormy and rainy days. For trousers, of course, these previous colors are perfect (black, brown, navy blue, ash, graphite etc.) they give your shirt wonderful contrast. Wear a tie contrasting the shirt. Avoid red, pink, golden etc. If you want, you can wear a coat but that’s not mandatory. Do not wear jeans trousers.

Next come shoes. What shoes to wear for an interview? Let’s take a bottom up approach and go up. Your shoes should be properly polished and be of a dark color. Avoid white, off-white and cream or any other funky colors. This color should be different from the color of the trousers. For socks, these have to be the same color as the trousers. The belt should be the same as the shoe. These are the guidelines for formal attires straight from the books. You don’t have to stick to these but try to be somewhere close to these.

The next thing to wear for an interview is a watch. Always try to wear a watch which shows punctuality. Wear colon of a proper amount. Apply some managing agent to your hair and try not to give a messy look. Rather, a semi-good boy look would convey a better image. Always remember to cut your finger nails and keep your hand clean as these are one of the first things about you that attract attention.

For women: the same rules apply for you if you are wearing formal attire for the interview. A good and fitting shirt or top with a blazer will make a great outfit. With that, wear a good set of trousers or a skirt with no frills. Do not wear jeans trousers.

You should keep it in mind that sandals that have hills are formal rather than those that are flat sleepers. Some of us have problems wearing these sandals. You should try to get used to these sandals. The hills should not exceed three inches. More important than practicing walking while you wear these hills, are wearing them and walking without that annoying tuck-tuck sound. These sounds raise eyebrows and of course not in a good way. In some cultures, it is often taken as disrespect by the interviewers.

Let’s talk about the hair now. An interview is really not an event to flaunt your beautiful hair. Neither is it appropriate to take your hand through your hair every now and then. Tie your hair with a hair band if it is unmanageable. If not, then use one or two clips to keep it tidy and in place.

What more to wear for an interview? Well, you should wear a wrist watch on one hand. On the other, if you want, you may wear something that is not very bright and eye catching and does not make any sound that attracts attention. Take quite a big bag if you are carrying a lot of small and necessary things. If you are carrying papers (which is often the case), carry a formal file.

These are some things that are basics that you get to wear for an interview. Make necessary adjustments and you are good to go!
