Women And Work Life Balance

Irrespective of the gender, striking a balance between work and life is a delicate task, more so because of the social and cultural reasons. The term work life balance is applicable to all men and women alike but is more crucial for women all over the world. Being a woman means to look after her family and run the house as well. Women and work life balance have been together since time immemorial.

The reasons that make women and work life balance a difficult combination are:

·        The society puts such a huge burden on women by expecting them to be a ‘‘super woman” and be able to do everything. Women are supposed to perform all their duties and still do not get the amount of rest that a man gets.

·        Some women feel that their work places become a battle ground once they have children. Being a father does not take a man’s credibility but being a mother makes a woman lose her credulity. She is considered less professional.

It is tougher for a woman to balance both work as well as her personal and family life together and also exceed in the former. Apart from the regular duty of running a house and looking after the family, she also needs to perform a way beyond the expectations of her seniors just to prove her capabilities as a professional. Here are few tips on how to tackle women and work life balance issues.

·        Women get guilt pangs when they leave their kids at home to fend for the family. The essential thing is to remember that you are not to have fun at your office. You are out there to earn.

·        This tip is really important to solve women and work life balance issues. Involve your man or your partner in your daily life and involve him to help you out in doing the work. Make sure that you do not end up fighting and handle the situation amicably. Do not fight or have an argument over it. This will not help the situation.

·        Try to maintain a clear difference between your work and your family. Be a mummy at home to your kids and a wife to your husband. This can be a little difficult if you are working from home.

·        Try to speak to your higher ups and communicate with them the problems that you face. Ask for solutions. Check with them if they can allow you to work from home or can work at flexible time.

·        Try to modify your schedule in such a manner that it is according to your convenience and does not let the work suffer.

·        Another important point for women and work life balance issues is to try not to be too finicky about house work. Remember, you cannot be a wife, mother, a professional and a maid, all at the same time. With children in the house, it is bound to get messy and if you are busy cleaning the house then it may be difficult to do your work.

·        If you need to step outside for work and there is no one at home to look after your child, then you need to look for a professional child care centre. Of course, this can be quite a challenge as being a mother; one may not find kind of foster care good enough for her child.

·        In the hustle and bustle of life, try to take care of yourself. Make it clear to every body including your child that there are certain times which is only for you and you would not appreciate if someone disturbs you. This could be in the morning or before going to bed whatever you deem fit.

Women and work life balance is a task which is delicate and requires careful thought and actions. It requires a lot of planning to excel in both the roles. Make sure before you put everybody else’s needs first, you should be in good working condition to be able to do so. Hence, go out and pamper yourself once in a while. There is nothing wrong in doing multitasking but over taxing yourself will neither help you nor your family or work.
