Work – A Healing Therapy

The whole world goes to work or simply works. Can’t we all make ‘Work a healing Therapy? The word ‘workaholic’ means a person who is obsessed with work. Millions of people go to work everyday. We don’t have to get obsessed with work which will make us sick or get too stressed out. Some people don’t like what they are doing because their work is very boring and tedious. Year in and year out they are doing the same thing. Some people work only for the money whereas there are some who work for the pleasure it gives them. However we don’t have to kill ourselves working or curse our fate towards our work. When used constructively work can be used as a healing therapy. Let’s see how.

1. Work is external but our attitude towards it is internal: – There are some very boring jobs in this world for e.g. clerical or the work of a typist, but our attitude towards our work determines whether we should like it or not Respect the work that you are doing for e.g. a clerk can always look forward to a promotion if he chooses to like his work.

2. Work brings home money:-Be happy that you are working and not a useless person. People don’t like seeing useless people as they are often made fun of. Even a self-employed person doing his own work brings home money. This is in itself a great achievement when you are able to generate our own source of income no matter how small but we have made a beginning.

3. Work gives self-satisfaction:- ‘I am working or I am financially independent’. These sentences are more than enough to bring a smile and a sense of self satisfaction

We begin to love ourselves and respect the human being that we are.

4. Work brings about self esteem and respect:-No matter what we are doing or how simple our work is, work will definitely boost our self esteem and people will begin to respect us. No matter how poor or simple a man if he is working he will always be respected in his social circle and community.

5. Work brings new people:-Every job has its plus and minus points. There are some jobs here we don’t have to travel but some jobs require extensive traveling for e.g.  a salesman travels to different places. Consider this work as a pleasure because we get a chance to meet new people everyday some of them even become lifelong friends.

6. Work to look forward to something new:-‘Networking is the new success mantra these days. People who come to work in an office are always on the lookout for people with whom they can network with for business. For e.g. A colleague of mine working in the same college joined a ladies group to start a business in selling winter wear.

7. Work makes us look forward to new challenges:-There is no life if we are lazy human beings. As long as there is work there is life. Work makes us look forward to fresh challenges. When the company or organization that we are working for gives us new projects we set off on a new journey putting in our own efforts and completing our projects. We expect our seniors in the higher level management to give us difficult projects to handle.

8. Work brings in productivity and growth:-When we look at highly industrialized nations in the world we are overawed by their productivity, performance and progress. For e.g. look at countries like Japan, Germany and USA. These are highly advanced nations Why? Their people think only one thing ‘WORK’. They all work hard that is why they are rich, highly industrialized and powerful nations in the world.

9. Work as a healing therapy:-Finally we have to deal with the title of the topic

‘Work a healing therapy’. Work means exercising ourselves mentally, physically and spiritually. Moving our hands and legs around the house, tending to the garden, mowing the lawn and cleaning the house will not only keep us physically fit but will help us overcome our personal, financial and professional loss. We are able to forget the loss of near and dear ones. We are able to divert our thoughts from people who have harmed us. So work is the only solution to our problems in our lives.

‘There is no substitute for hard work’. Use Work as a healing therapy and this will bring happiness in our lives. It will change our perspective of the world around us and make us better human beings. Better still anybody you see sitting idle or lazy to work his or her way out of any difficult situation.
